Where in Floridia are you going to be stationed?

Jacksonville at one time had a couple of pretty active VW clubs.  I don't know if they still have it, but several years ago I attended a show at Jacksonville Beach.  I've also attended one about 30 miles down the road at the St. John's Flea Market near St. Augustine several times.  Jacksonville is a really nice area, I think you'll enjoy it.
