VW named the new bay window Type 2 the "Clipper" before it was released, I read in a VW book I got for Christmas. Also "Clipper L" for the deluxe model.
Turns out
Clipper
was already registered to Pan Am for an airliner so they had to change but apparently bays are still known as Clippers every now and then.
Also there have been times I've called my bus some names I couldn't repeat here :lol:
