Motor is finally in and running good! Almost ready to go!

« on: October 07, 2008, 05:28:50 PM »
Ok, so I have the motor in (thanks to help from Mike (LOLA) and some misc. parts from Russ, and some nice slider windows in that I got from GoBusGo.....

The motor is running good (aside from not having the tools or the timing scale to time it with) but I did notice on a short trip out the other day that I am missing one piece to be able to really get around.... For some reason the yahoo I bought this bus from must have "misplaced" the voltage regulator, because it wasnt there now and I did wonder what the 3 wire connector coming from the alternator went to. well, now I do, and I dont have one. so does anyone have one I can buy? I would like to be able to bring the bus to the cruise-in on the 10th but I will need this part to be able to make the run!

I could also use a decent used timing scale to time my motor with since my metal one is illegible from age.

so close now.......

Don't let that metal timing scale get away from you.  You can re-mark the scale by laying it over one of the plastic scale on some of our member Van.   I think Mike has one on his van.  All you need is to file 2 marks , 0 and 32 degrees.   I like the metal scale . The plastic ones can get all wharped/cracked up .   You might also get lucky and find one.
I wouldn't stray to far from home until you have the timing right.  You could overheat that new engine and burn somthing up .  Make sure you can see the mark on the pulley real well .  VW didn't stamp them very well and they can be hard to see behind the pulley grill.
32 degrees at about 1500-1800 RPMs is max advance

ok I got my new voltage regulator today, hooked it up, and this is what I got.

ignition on.... battery light on
motor running.... light still on
rev the motor up...light gets brighter???

any ideas as to why it is doing this?
