Merry Xmas and we need a new car

« on: December 25, 2010, 03:14:18 PM »
Oldest Son lost it and hit a big rock,  big damage but I drove it home after the rock let go of it.  Every one is fine.  Can I reused the air bags some how?   SC

I would put him in a pedal car with the pedals welded then get some logging chain and tie it to something immovable(if thats possible)I'm not sure what that would be at this point unless it would be Stupie ::)

Sure you can use the air bag over. Just get some cotton thread and needle , a bucket of cedar chips. Put them in the air bag then sew up the split and then duct-tape the bag to the steering wheel. And there you have it. The cedar chips will help to cover that odor that seems to appear after getting scared to death :o

Them airbags sure are made of strong fabric.   Seems a waste to cut them out so I stuffed them back in  dash,  Sc

Oh the reason the windshield cracked is they had a glass snow globe on the dash and when the Airbag blew,  it smashed the snow globe against the window,..  Why me?  SC

Because you do things like putting a glass snow globe on the dash where it can be launced through the air in the event of an airbag deployment.... ;D

Just be thankful the globe was sent into the windshield, not somebody's face.   ;)

Here is something to think about. In Tn. if you have a bad enough accident in a car with airbags and they did not go off and someone got hurt , DOT and your Ins. or the other person's Ins. inspectors will look and WILL find out why. If they find out the bags had already exploded or were not even there, shame on you and byebye Ins. Hello Lawyer from the other guy farm.  I had a friend from Chickamauga had this very thing happen to him.Cost him about $45,000. and was lucky .   Good Luck

45k!!!    Thats worth a drive to a pullapart for an air bag... it seems they are relatively cheap for an airbag.

Good info Bugtech.  I'll have to think more on this,  I read one thing that maybe your Insurance Company will not give you the safe car airbag discount.  I'll give allstate a call on this.  SC

I bought a tank , its a 94 Sherman M1,     called Allstate.  They could not confirm that driving a car with exploded air bags was bad risk ,  or that they would not cover my passenger injuries.    they will get me more  answers Thursday.  SC
