Looking for mechanic to do a inspection

« on: January 28, 2009, 06:55:25 PM »
Hi, I'm planning to be up in Chattanooga this weekend checking out a 79 SB vert. I need to find a good mechanic that can do a inspection of the car for me while I'm there. Any suggestion?

Thanks
Mike

I think Rick at R&M would be the best for you. He has "lifts" so you can check the car out top and bottom which would be a good thing considering its a Super Beetle and a "Vert"

We do a pre purchase inspection that runs $32.50 plus tax.  That will get the whole car looked over and any problems noted.
Thanks.

Hey Mike,  We just got a phone call from the current owner grilling us on what we are and are NOT going to be doing to her BABY.  1st things 1st,  I hope you are not traveling far..she said she wasn't even sure that she was going to go through with the sale.   She said that NOTHING will be removed during the inspection or we wouldn't be doing it and that her car runs PERFECT...So checking the brakes is out and it's implied that any drivability problems after we look at it is our responsibility. To be honest with you I don't want to invite the headache that this lady obviously is into my shop.  I'm sorry, but I will not be able to check the Beetle out before you buy it, I hope you understand and have enough time to find someone else.
Thanks and good luck!

I agree with you Rick and this goes with any car deals even dealerships.
When you are going to make a investment like this and the owner won't let you get the car  inspected , you need to walk away.  I'm sure this lady is asking high $$ also. I would be curious to what she asking for it. I wonder if this "Vert" would pass any of the emission test. Do you want to make a bet ?

I wouldn't walk away ....I'd run! Seems there is something they dont want you to find. If they want top dollar for a super beetle vert thats a problem to begin with. Vert parts particularly tops are exspensive to mess with and unless the front end under that super is new forget about it!

No super bettle is worth a big asking price....ever. Well maybe a german look with a 2 liter in it but thats it. Run as far as you can away from that quack.

I retreated   and escaped his dreaded super beetle death camp.
