Nothing new about that. They all looked like that for the most part starting about 5 years before I retired.  We had to just about take a Tetnus shot and wear Haz-Mat stuff before we could get near them. There is nothing quite like replacing a front to rear brake line on a crusty Bug while trying to work around mummfied objects  that once could have been a Krystal/Wendys hamburger or some other objects that I belive were "Great Flapping Things " in the  distance past or a un-tidy Type-3 full of chicken mites. I could write a book if it wouldn't gross me out on what I have seen in some of these cars. :pukeleft:

These guys were out in full force at the Bulli Brigade and the Florida Bug Jam.  Love those rusty buses!

:) Club growth is good, but active member participation is better.

Scott, I have been sitting back thinking about this "replenish the young" thingy and bringing the Patina crowd in. What do you call young ?
I  think it would be fun to see just how "Funky" and "Crappy " a VW could could be and still be running under its own power.
Talking about young, Hell Fire ! you are young like a lot of our members are. If you are talking about teenage kids, I don't have a  problem with that as long they have a functional brain and can act like it and  are not a bunch of juvenile delinquents  raising hell all the time.
Before my time in the club, there was a group of people from somewhere in GA. use to come to our show and raise general hell all night long. I think they have either broken up or are banned from a lot of shows. I never saw them.
You better be glad that there is a core group running things . I don't think I have ever seen a bunch of wild Young'uns ( maybe 1 out of 10) that could ever come close to putting on an event like all 8 of the BPs
But we do need to bring the young ones along. They will be
responsible for this club down the road. Like GTI-98 said, they need to particitate and help out .
Scott, Bring them on and sign them up.  Might be fun!

There are a few young-uns and I've discovered em throughout the east coast . Most of the real young(16-20) work in their family owned VW shops. Most of em around here are at least in their 20's or even my age.
By the one's I spoke to,I don't think many will join but who knows.
They do know about the club and aknowledge that they the "club is a great orginization with tons of knowledge" (they must know about you so watch out!)But I don't see it happening really. A few may come checking things out and if I get lucky I may talk em into it.As far as participation the young guys are getting more dedicated than I ever thought. They attend more shows and wrench on more bugs than most. what will the future hold? Not sure...I think I'll write an article about this subject.

That group had one or two "younguns" but the ones causing the most trouble were old enough to know better!  Most of their hell raising was, shall we say . . . "chemically induced."  At the second Stevenson Bug Blast, the only reason the whole group didn't locked up is the police chief said the jail wouldn't hold all of 'em.  He took all of their keys and told them when they were de-toxified enough to walk, to walk down the station, pick up their keys, get out of Stevenson and don't come back.  I think that was the last place they ever showed up at as a group.  I don't think anyone misses them.  I don't think . . .   I know I don't.   8)

I remember that group. They really lived up to their club name!!     There were some of them that I would hate to meet in a dark alley unless I was fully armed and had backup!! Looked more like throwback to the "Hells Angels" or other radical groups of the 60's. Down right embarassing to have folks like that having a VW club.
