Just ordered all 5 of the DVD Herby Movies...

« on: December 22, 2011, 04:31:25 PM »
Just ordered all the Herby movies that are out on DVD.
Got all 5 from Amazon with free shipping for $27.00.
They do not have the new "The Love Bug" from 1980's on DVD, just VHS so I skipped it.  It was also $14.00 - ouch.
Does any one have that on VHS I could watch?
I just wanted the girls to see and laugh at the same movies that I watched back when I was less than 4' tall...

If I can find it . . . I'm thinking I even have it on a DVD, but I know I've got a copy of it on something.  Did you know that there was a short lived TV series?  I've never seen any of them, but I think what I've heard is that they filmed about 5 shows . . . but the series got cut after the first two or three aired.  Dr. Feildinggood can tell you more.   :vw:

Yeah, I'm getting the original love bug, but they made a remake in like 1980 or 84 that has that older guy from "burn notice" in it as the driver.
It has not been moved to DVD though because (internet conspiracy theorists here) the Fully loaded had about 80% the same story line...
I had heard of the TV show, but I too have never seen it.
Thanks,
KC

I think "Love Bug" remake (a Disney 'made for TV' movie) was done in the mid 90's.  The reason I think that is that I remember an article about the movie before it was released being in either Hot VWs or VW Trends.  I had never heard of Hot VWs or VW Trends until after we bought an old Beetle for Justin when he was about to turn 15 and get his learner's permit.  If my math is right, he turned 15 in 95.

The movie featured Herbie and an evil "Horice the Hate Bug."  At one point, Herbie was destroyed and they about to bury him when an "old friend" of his showed up . . . that charactor was played by the same guy who played the Hippie at the drive-in in the original version (remember "We all prisioners chicky baby. We all locked in.") . . . I think the guy played another part in the original Love Bug as well.  And he had a role in "Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo" too.   ;D :D ;D

Dean Jones had a brief spot in the movie, too.   ;D

Who would have thunk.  I was paying my dues working at Southland VW when the original Herby movie hit the big screen. It wasn't long before Mr. Dan had about 20 pedal car Herby's made with VWoA backing  and support to give away to the kids if their parents bought a new VW. It wasn't long before a lot of VW dealerships were offering this deal. Herby helped sell a lot of Bugs due to this effort. I wish I could have gotten my hands on one before they were all gone. We all thought this was a short lived fad. Boy!! were we all wrong. Long live Herby and the faithful old Bug.

This is a fun little compilation video that features all of the movies, including the one from the 90s that was made for ABC.

Enjoy.   ;D

That was in 1997 and it starred Bruce Campbell.

That was him.  Dean Jones played the part of Jim Douglas in the Original Herbie the Love Bug and Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo, as well as brief appearance as Jim Douglas in the 90's "The Love Bug" made for TV movie.  What most people don't realize is  Dean Jones also played the part of the hippie at the drive-in in the original movie.  ;D

Since the 1997 remake is out of print and not available on DVD, I managed to find a torrent copy and downloaded it. I can put it on DVD for anyone who wants to see it.

You need to watch the DVD that has the commentary by the stars as one of the "extras" . . . while the movie plays you hear Dean Jones and Buddy Hackett talking about a lot of behind the scenes stuff.  It's great.  I think that's where I learned about the hippie being Jones.  I'm like you Rick.  I'd watched it countless times, and had even quoted that line many times . . . and never had a clue who it was.  8)
