Just a little fun

Today I had a rather interesting encounter. A younger guy saw my bug in the college parking lot, and proceeded to tell me how much better his Kia was than my little bug. He challenged me to a race, to which I replied that I had too much money invested in my engine to risk blowing it on something stupid like that. He then kept on with his little speech about how Kia was going to be the next most loved car, similar to what the VW was and STILL IS around the world.
What would you have done?

I'd ask him how fast he could drop his engine or put a new one in and have it back on the road.
I'd ask him if he honestly thought they would make a series of movies totally based on Kia's
I'd ask him if he honestly thought children throughout the world would invent and play a game called "punch-kia."
I'd ask him if he honestly thought that his Kia would be an icon for an entire generation and then some.
I'd tell him that usually people who assert themselves or their possessions in such a way as he did, have a mean jealous streak through and through! :D

Okay- this is what I did. I got in my bug, started her up, let her dual quiet pack/merged header do a little talking, and watched all the heads turn as I drove past. The kid was following me and got NO looks. I didn't need to say anything.
:) :)
I just let my bug do the talking.

Show him your title.  Ask him if he's ever visited his at the real owner's place-the bank!

He probably owes twice as much as it's worth on the market.  When I sold cars, I tried to trade a couple of people out of Kias.  They usually left when they found out what they were worth as trades (incidently, Kia built the Ford Aspire for a few years-I actually sold 2 in a year and a half!).
Also, the Ricer Look is worth even less!  Dealers want something easy to resell, not a green metalflake paintjob with gold trim and 24-inch wheels.

Invest in precious metal - VW.

That's a great point, there, Anthony. I like to pull out my title every once in a while and just smile knowing that the bug's ALL MINE.
I have never really liked the "ricer" look. (Even when applied to VW's) I do like the old EMPI and Gene Berg racer look, though. OOOOH YEAH!! I plan to get a '65 bug and paint it to look like the Inch Pincher- what do you guys think about that?
Well, I saw that kid again today and he didn't say one word to me- he couldn't, really, now could he? :)

Here's what I would have said . . .

WOW, I didn't realize Kia's were so great!  I might like to get involved with the Kia crowd!  Where does your Kia club meet?  When and where is the next Kia only show?  What are some Kia web sites I can look at?  What the top two or three "Kia only" enthusiast magazines and where I can I pick up copies?  Maybe I need to go buy a new one now and put it in dry storage . . . if they are anything like VWs, I'll be able to sell it for a hugh profit when I sell it 30 years from now!

THEN[/u] I would have laughed in his face!  Just before I passed out laughing, I would have muttered something like "I should have been a commedian! . . . and by the way, your villiage called . . . their idiot is missing!"    :D

A sage wiser than me came up with that.  You can (or could) get it on a license tag.
My sister has a Kia.  She's put those lighted washer nozzles and spinning (not spinner) hubcaps (not actual wheels, just hubcaps).  It looks ridiculous.  My grandfather helped her get it after he had one for a year or so.  His "mods" consist of a Kleenex holder on the dash (also looks pretty ridiculous).  Remember, a polished turd is still a turd!  They're not bad automobiles from my experience, but they're never going to be fast OR furious!

I think we should put "Invest in precious metal- VW" on a few bumper stickers with our logo on it, what do you guys think?

Oh, and by the way- that kid showed up with those stupid ugly shiny whell covers on his kia and thought he was the "stuff". I couldn't help but chuckle. I didn't say anything, I don't want to start stuff and give myself or our club a bad name.
Maybe I should have asked him at the time if he could change his own oil, do actual BENEFICIAL modifications himself, if he ever got stories from other people about when they had THEIR first kia, etc... etc...
Man, I love my VW!!
