 I just ran across this on the internet:

Quote
Don Knotts, the skinny, lovable nerd who kept generations of television audiences laughing as bumbling Deputy Barney Fife on "The Andy Griffith Show," has died. He was 81.

Knotts died Friday night of pulmonary and respiratory complications at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Beverly Hills, said Paul Ward, a spokesman for the cable network TV Land, which airs "The Andy Griffith Show," and another Knotts hit, "Three's Company."

Don also played many roles in Disney films during the 60's and 70's.  One of my personal favorites was his role in "Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo" (1977). You can read more about him here:  http://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/wireStory?id=1662576&page=1

Thanks for the countless laughs you gave us! We'll miss you Don!   :salute:

As a retired officer of the law (occifer to drunks) I loved the character Barney Fife. How many laughs did this man bring to the world either as Barney or his other comical roles through his career.

Rest in peace Barney!! You will always be in our hearts and minds....

This was indeed a man of many parts.  What comes to mind for me?  Whether it's Barney, Andy's faithful deputy, Mr. Limpet or the wonderfully funny character he played in "The Ghost and Mr. Chicken"....EGAD, an Edsel driver, this was one funny dude.

RIP Don.  There's a lot of us still here that really loved you.
