insurance company help...anyone have a 72 squareback for sale?

« on: December 27, 2010, 07:12:52 PM »
Hi. I was hit by a drunk driver, and it smashed my lovely and beautiful 72 Squareback.  The insurance company value of this car is extremely low.  To prove to the insurance company that the car is worth more, I have to find comparable cars that are the same make, model, and year in tennessee.  These ads have to contain a phone number of the seller too (which voids a lot of message board ads).  There are not a lot of these cars out there, let alone for sale in tennessee. I found the one on Samba but that's it.  Can anyone help me?
Maybe you have one that you could put up for sale for a second?
I need screen shots of ads of these cars for sale.
Also soon as the paper work is settled, my smashed one will be for sale if anyone is interested. Thank you.

Check:
www.thesamba.com
Most adds have a phone #.
I would get the ones for N.Ga as well seeing that there is alot of commerce between the two.
Good luck.

It doesn't really help you now, but collector car insurance is usually better for old cars because instead of blue book, they will insure for an agreed value.

Finding the same make, model, and year in TN only with phone number listings will be tough. If you could expand the search to surrounding states, a range of years, and also including fastbacks/notchbacks you might have more luck. Try some local auto trader magazines too, you never know.

That's quite a narrow bunch of requirements they've given, you're almost guaranteed not to turn any up.

Could you put together some receipts for parts/service on the car that would help justify its value?

You probably need to go back to the insurance company and demand they let you pull comp's from a larger area since this is not a common car.  Remind them that if you are looking for only a '72 Squareback in the same condition in TN, your car may not have anything to compare it too . . . which would make it priceless.  Insurance companies love to intimidate folks.  Don't let them.

Yes, classic car insurance would have been the way to go if i had known.  Still fighting with the insurance company...they won't budge to include other states and years.  Don't know what is going to happen yet, but doesn't look good for me.  :(  Thanks for the advice.

You might want to contact someone at the state department of Commerce and Insurance --  http://www.tennessee.gov/commerce/index.shtml

They should at least be able to let you know if the insurance company is playing by the rules.
