I saw a Kubelwagen!! - in Knoxville of all places

Yeah, that's right- I saw a Kubel parked outside a little bodyshop in the Halls area yesterday. Of course I stopped! I wanted to make sure it was an authentic Kubel and not a modified Thing. All I have to say is- WOW! The owner said that he was in the process of selling it to a guy out in Phoenix. I didn't ask how much- didn't want to give my self a heart attack!
Well, anyway, I just wanted to share my latest VW experience. It's not everyday that you would see one of these, especialy in Knoxvillle!

I've seen a Schwimwagen (sp?) in person twice.  Both times were in Knoxville!

It was actually from Memphis, but it was at the now defunct Volunteer Bug Jam a couple of years.  The Dr. who owned it let them auction off a ride through the "Duck Pond" (a.k.a. the big nasty mud hole).  I know one year the ride went for over $100 (money was donated to a charity).  I'd love to take a ride in one . . . but not for $100!

I've tried to get Dr. Mack Jones to attend our show the past two years and get him to bring either his Kubel or his Schwimwagen. He didn't respond to my letter and I tried going thru a friend in California to no avail. Oh well. I'll try abain next year.

I'll go by that body shop again to see if I can find out who owned that Kubel. If the guy who owned it was willing to restore a Kubel, just think what else he might have! Maybe he'll come to our show with some rare VW's?
