I did it!!!

Today I just pulled my first engine...Wooooo Hooooo!!! Now that is too kewl...went without a hitch, well I had to talk to it a bit to seperate it but it came loose. The Haynes, Muir's and Online manuals proved their worth.

Any suggestions on what to check on while the engine is out? areas to look at and more...?

What did you have to take it out for?

It has been sitting for quite some time in a lot prior to me buying it. It would start and idle (barely) and when you would press down on the throttle it would die. The plugs were black as night and the oil was sludgy. Plus, with the inspection from Herb and David, we all decided it would be a good idea to pull it and rebuild what was needed. Doing this at least I would know what was going on with my engine rather than the big mystery of not knowing what might be wrong with it down the road. Not only that it gives me the experience of pulling one a rebuiding it as well.

alright.
Just make sure you don't procrastinate!

I've been working on my rebuild for a year now!
I'm fed up with it and really want it done now.

When I started, I wasn't really sure what to do and didn't have the dedication and funding to really do it in a week or so, now I can pretty much pay for new parts and all so I plan on getting it done soon...

Not knowing what's going on with can also give you the experience of pulling the engine and rebuilding it too!  The big difference is this way you might not have to do it in less than 24 hours in an outdoor horse arena at the county fairgrounds 150 miles from home.

Well I have broken this all down into several categories...

The what needs done and the what I want done...

This is the way I look at it...we all want the bells and whistles when getting a project, everyone likes the shiny toys best. However, if I am the only one looking at it, cause it isn't driving down the road, what good does it do!

So I have formulated my little plan carefully, now if I can stick to it better than I do a diet or quitting smoking then I should fare well...hehe!

First I plan on getting the engine in running shape (stock) and making it look nice by repainting it and adding new parts...no bling bling at this point, just basics.

Once this is hooked back up and moving then I will check out the rest of the ride and prioritize items by what is safety and needed versus style. If in fact I need a part and I happen to want it to look or feel a certain way then I will approach it with my budget in mind. Still following me, really this is possbile..haha!

Now that my engine, brakes suspension and all of my mechanical and electrical parts function, it will now be time to sit back and put my imagination to work.

I will start with the outside first, paint body work and how I want it all shaped...and then I will finish the interrior with my own plush accomodations...

When all is said and done I should have my ride done in the next 10 years...lol!

Ah Yes,  I love it when a Guy has a plan. Now if you can stick to at least 50% of it, you will be ahead. 10 years ? maybe more like 2 years. Patience, patience. Its amazing how much you smoke/drink while sitting in the R&D room in the house figuring all this stuff. Press on!!!!

Congratulations on getting your engine pulled. It wasn't as bad as you were expecting, was it?

It will all come together in time......................how much time is not an issue...................consider this as a labor of love and therapy.

We all need some therapy from time to time.

Actually it wasn't too bad Herb...must have had the "Godfather's Auro" watching over me...lol! Now I am at a stopping point, I stripped the engine down to the block and all it awaits is the free time of the guru himself, can't wait till class starts!

(btw he mentioned toddy, what kind?, and I might even have to buy some nana puddin from the misses Herb to keep him going)
