Honest Charley/Jungle Jim

« on: November 21, 2008, 12:14:50 PM »
I don't know if any of your have ever heard of Jungle Jim or not, but he is a very well known funny car racer from back in the '70s.  About a year ago, one of our customers recreated his 1970 split bumper Camaro funny car that was originally sponsored by Honest Charley.  The car's body was taken off of the same mold as the original.  The car has been at the Wally Parks NHRA museum for the last 6 months with our Honest Charley 60th anniversary exhibit.  Well today, I had the pleasure of unloading the car and placing it in our showroom.  Boy is it the coolest thing!!!  I know it's not a VW, but it is an awesome piece of history and just cool as hell to look at.  I encourage everyone to try to come see it while it is on display.  And I'll even sweeten the pot a little, I'll take ya to see Corky's 1957 Oval!  At this time I do not have pictures yet.  Still waiting on my marketing department to email 'em over to me.  BTW, we are now open from 8-12 on Saturdays.

Here I am standing next to it

Do the taillights look like they are suppose to be on the opposite side from each other?  Maybe it's just my crooked eyes.   :)

YEP !!!  I told you he didn't know anything about VWs.   Tell Corky that I will come down and give him a little  VW 101 if he would like it.  Very nice little oval.   Who restored it ?

I was supervising the steering of the car.  Couldn't get everyone else to understand that the steering is super hard to turn and that they were pushing faster than he could turn.

The museum is open now or the speed shop?

I got to see the bug in person a couple months ago but didn't look at the taillights... i was kind of overwhelmed by the other cars and the motorcycles

Do ya mean for flaring the fenders out?  Lowered car need some tire clearance?  If that is what you are doing, use a baseball bat.  That's what I always did back when I was into minitrucks.

Yeah somtyhin like that. I have about the widest tires you can put on a stock fastback and my sidewalls are going to pop if I don't do something soon. Its a bit cold to be rolling fenders but it needs done. Most tools don't go to 130mm so I can't use them anyways, but I think it would be easier to heat the fender while using the tool rather than a baseball bat. Don't wanna crack the paint ya know!

Didn't make it down to the shop today. So monday maybe.

Everyone raves on modern tech stuff..no way! That ole stuff is way betta!

Would anyone mind if I came down one day and shot some pics of the cars? I wish I had thought of it but I was thinking about the beam and didnt bring my camera.
