I wish I still had my '40 Mercury 'vert'. It had a 59AB block, 3-3/8 over 4 inch crank, Windfield R-2 cam. 2 Stromberg 97 carbs on a Edelbrock intake and a pair of "Denver" heads
I understand that only 529 '40 Merc. verts were built.  "Georgia Boy" Robinson(Booze Hauler) built it for me in North Chatt. I was about 17 and of course I tore the car up.  Sigh ! Most of the parts came from H.C.

Hey J.R.  Wasn't Arden the company that made a set of OHV Hemi heads for the Flathead Ford ?    I saw one at a drag strip years ago and I thought it was a 396 Mopar Hemi but the owner told me it was a Ford block. He also had a OHV head on a Model-T Ford Speedter.

Yes it was Ardun that made the OHV conversion for the Flathead.  Zora Arkus-Duntov was the man that invented that.  Also for the ones that do not know, he was also the reason the Corvette dropped it's 6 cylinder and became a V8.  He started Chevrolet's performance division.

I heard a tale that Duntov just about had the Small block designed on a cross country plane trip.  I didn't know that Duntov designed the Ardun heads .Interesting .

At the meeting, I wanted to purchase this book.  It was never offered up for sale to my knowledge.

Its true that I didn't plan to sell the book that night and I didn't want to turn the club meeting into a live auction. The plan was, as I announced, to put it on ebay. Hugh asked me a few questions, made an offer and convinced me to call Rex and ask him if he'd accept it, and he did. All I'll say about the price is that it was around the price I sold an Empi catalog for a while ago on Ebay. It wasn't intended to be an under-the-table deal. Several people at the meeting expressed interest, but as anyone who's sold something knows, that's not the same as an offer to buy it then and there. Sorry if that upset "jrcnova" or "bugnut" (also sorry I don't know your real names from the boards here, but that's another subject...) but all I can say is be assured if you had come up and made the same offer I'd have done the same for you. Furthermore, I don't think Hugh's intentions were to step on anyone's toes, either. He said he felt like it should stay in Chattanooga. What's great is that its online now for everyone in the SCVF and not on its way to California!
