Honest Charley EMPI "Bug Book" catalog

At long last, I've finished scanning the catalog. It was purchased several months ago from Rex Wheeler by club members Hugh and Kathy Schein. They loaned it to me so it could be scanned and shared on the web so everyone can peek at a little bit of VW and Chattanooga history.

Honest Charley's Speed Shop is still open in Chattanooga. Unfortunately the publication is not dated but it looks to be circa late 60s based on some of the stuff featured.

Here is a link to the PDF: http://www.volksfolks.org/HonestCharleyCatalog.pdf

Check out some of the aftermarket products (and prices).

Dang !!! Talk about bringing back old memories.  I bought a lot of that stuff
back in the day.  That was when EMPI was considered "Top of The Line" and it was.   \:D/

At the meeting, I wanted to purchase this book.  It was never offered up for sale to my knowledge.

Yes, it was sold at the meeting. Anthony sold it on behalf of Rex Wheeler.

It wasn't "for sale" at the meeting, but it was sold at the meeting.  If I remember correctly, Rex needed to raise some capital for a project and was going to eBay the book and some other stuff in his collection.  Anthony talked Rex into letting him bring it to the meeting to show it to the club before it went on the auction block . . . Hugh and Kathy made him an offer he couldn't refuse and got it before it made it to eBay.

It's a very cool piece of Chattanooga VW history!  Thanks to Rex, Anthony, Hugh and Kathy and Russ for working together to keep it in Chattanooga and sharing it with all of us!   :thumbs-up:  :salute:

You are correct.  Anthony said that he would tell everyone when it went on eBay so that if we were interested we could bid.  I never heard anything and checked eBay often.  I was hoping to purchase it especially since I am a VW guy and worked at Honest Charley.  Just a lil bummed I guess.

Well JR ,Go ask Hugh and Kathy if they would part with it seeing how it a part  of H.C. history and it ought to stay with H.C.  All they can do is say no.

JR was at the meeting, he could have bought it like Hugh and Kathy did. Maybe he was staring into Fred's eyes and missed out.

No, Anthony said he was putting it on ebay and it was not for sale at that time.  So therefore I did not have the chance to purchase.  So blah, and yes I like Fred's eyes!

I use to have some but  God only knows what happened to them. I also had several early  H.C. cats. not related to VW. They were more like a pamphlet. This was the time Ford "flatheads" reined and there was no "small block" Chevys.  I think H.C. small store was on McCallie Ave across from Warner Park at that time.

That would've been a long time ago.  The Ford Flathead is just as popular now with hot rodding as it was back in the day.  We have a '32 Ford Roadster with a blown Flathead in it.  Engine alone was $17,000.
