I put a new heater core in it 3 years ago.  That's the main reason I didn't just sell the car for scrap after the accident.  The heat worked really good until about a week ago . . . the car will warm up to about 180 degrees and sit there.  When it was in the 20s the other night, it never got over 100 degrees.

Yep, it was.  Two bolts hold the flange that the thermostat is under . . . seals with an o-ring.  Sounds like a 10 minute job doesn't it?  It ain't.   :-\  But, the parts were cheap enough and I didn't break anything else while I was fixing it, so I'm happy.  It warms up and sits on 190 now and the the heater works again!

Finally found the leak in the Passat's right rear tire and got it fixed.  Then the rain set in.  Pulling Homer's oil pressure relief piston and freeing it up got rained out.  All my free time this weekend went into keeping the old Passat roadworthy for a few hundred more miles.   :(  Next weekend . . . if it doesn't rain . . . and nothing else falls apart.  The good news is I once again have heat and I won't have to air up my tire three times a day.
