Russ . . . SET THE COUNTER TO ZERO!  Homer is on the road again.   ;D

I installed the original carb back on it yesterday.  I works much better since William cleaned all the rusty, muddy gunk out of it and rebuilt it.  The brakes were a little iffy for the first few stops, but seemed to have freed up and knocked the cob webs and rust off the drums and rotors and they work pretty good now.

When I went to move it out of it's spot, I had to rock it back and forth a bunch of times . . . it had sunk down in the ground about 2" or so.  I gott'a air the tires up.  After nearly 3 years, they are a little low.  And now they have flat spots . . . and they were passenger car tires to begin with.  I'm glad the wind wasn't blowing!

I still have a lot of cleaning to do on the interior and I have an issue with the throttle cable . . . I don't know if the cable is binding in the tube or if the pedal return spring is sticking . . . I think it's a problem with the pedal.

I really need to change the oil and adjust the valves and brakes, but I save that for next weekend.  I might even get a few cans of Kylon and touch up the paint!   ;D

Drove Homer to work today.  He made it all the way to 60 mph going down Rock Springs hill.  55 is about max on level ground, and it won't hold that on even the slightest upgrade.  Keep in mind that his speedometer is at least 10% off . . . he's not really going as fast as it shows.  I think I might need to work on the accelerator pedal/cable.   8)

BUT, He's on the road!!!    ;D

Homer made it to the meeting and back how without a problem.  The counter didn't reach 1000 days.  Life is good.  Thanks to everyone who helped get him back on the road!   ;D

Saw it! It was a good one. I think it's cause the tires are hard and dry

Zen, how's homer?

I looked through my tom Wilson engine book and saw that the front ( front is front) pressure relief valve dumps back to the sump. I'd check that one first and report back. If I'm not mistaken, William has a pressure valve piston puller.

I'll check it out this weekend.  It had very good oil pressure before it sat for nearly 1000 days . . . I'm pretty sure its the pressure relief piston stuck opened.

I've also got to install my new thermostat in the Passat.  Coming home from the meeting tonight (well, last night now) the temperature gauge never got over to 100.  Homer's heater works better than the Passat's right now.  :o I started to change it a couple of days ago but when I started to pull the flange off the end of the engine I realized it wasn't shaped right for the thermostat to fit behind it.  A little research and I found that the thermostat is located on the bottom of the water pump housing.  Gott'a drop the power steering pump to get to it from underneath the car . . . and the bolts like to wring off . . . and all the coolant runs out . . . and now I remember why I love air-cooled VWs.  ;D
