Henderson addition - 1998 Mexi-Beetle

« on: May 20, 2003, 06:53:05 PM »
Hey everybodee!!

Anthony is the proud driver of a 1998 Red Mexican Beetle.  He got it today from a lot in East Ridge.  It is really cool.  It (we haven't named it yet, so it will be called "it" for now) only has 32,000 km (approx 20,300 miles) on it, and it is like an old beetle fresh off the show room floor.  With air-conditioning too!!!  I'll get Anthony to upload a picture soon.

Hang on Herb and Zen, we are on our way to catching up with you guys.

Misty

Put up the pictures quick!!  I think I get almost as excited when one of the "family" gets a new car as I do when I get one. I KNOW Dee gets excited about someone else getting one instead of us. :D Congratulations.

Hey, guys.  Sorry I haven't put up photos, yet, but as soon as it quits raining, (June?, July?) I'll get some up!  Final Touch Car Sales had it in their ad in "The Accelerator" (weekly used car rag) this week, if any of you saw that.  Don't worry, I didn't pay what they had in the ad, but that's another story!
It's red w/grey interior, and looks like any of the MexiBeetles we've seen with no chrome trim, blacked out handles, body color bumpers, single pea-shooter.  It still has the Mexican dealer sticker and some kind of licence sticker and tires w/Spanish writing on them.  It drives like I imagine a vintage Beetle would have driven in the '60s and '70s
His name is Juan, (after Grand Prix drivers Juan Manuel Fangio and Juan Pablo Montoya)

seeing as how it is a MexiBeetle, I think "Juan" is a very good name for him. But remember Julio? (Russ' first name for his bus) After working on him for a while, we had to change Julio's name to one reflecting a female gender.        LOL

Nice Car!

You hear folks talk about the quality of stuff coming out Mexico being poor, but from what I've seen and heard of the "new" air-cooled Beetles, the quality is excellent!  Also, the new Mexican versions have another quarter century worth of improvements that our old bugs missed out on . . . front disc brakes, electronic ignition, better hood seals (the seal is on the hood its self, elminating the channel on the body that traps water and rust), better seats, and if you'll notice in the picture, the indention for the "quarter moon" vents behind the rear window is there, but there isn't a vent . . . look at the rust just under the vents on most 71-77 bug sedans and you'll see why this is an improvement.

We used all of our spares stickers on the Vee.  We will have to get some more soon.

That is one pretty car. We're jealous! As for the stickers, we have some in the "trailer" that are just begging to be put on that car.

Does anyone realize how diverse our club is as far as all the different types of German steel that is represented? Think about it!  There may be a quiz!

wouldn't it be cool to gather all of our cars (and I mean all of them) at somewhere and make a "family portrait"

I know there were several of us that made numerous trips back and forth from home to get all of our VWs to BP5.  We can do the same thing for the photo.

I think a "family portrait" would definately be in order. We already have the photographer for it.

We are going to need a WEEK to get ALL the club cars in one spot. Some are missing small parts, like ENGINES!!!     LOL
Very cool MEX-BUG. I'm jealous... How about the name "JUANITA" or "CHILI PEPPER" or just "CHILI" since its
got AC. Park it next to your Westy will make a cool
X-mas photo.

There was an error while liking
