Hello all!

« on: May 06, 2009, 12:15:09 PM »
Just wanted to introduce myself.  I am a brand new VW owner, having just purchased my first-  a classic bug.  Everthing seems to be pretty good on it (I would like to have the brakes adjusted and the transmission inspected as reverse slips out sometimes).  Being not mechanically inclined, what are my best options?  I have always seen that Eurasian Auto store next to McKays.  Is it any good?  How much I am looking at to have the brakes adjusted and transmission as well?

Hi Beetlefan welcome to the forum. I am like a expert on begging for help for my Super  Everyone here is willing to help and they give a lot of good advice if you can understand them  (I'm mechanically challenged) I took FeeBee to Rick on 58 Highway for her brakes he did a exceptional job I have previously taken her to 3 other garages trying to get her to STOP and they all took my money with a smile :D The Godfather built my engine and some tranny work He's awesome!. Justin put in my stereo and speakers and now installing a steering wheel, seat belts and some cool LED Lights on the transmission for when it falls out   Here is some important advice....Take your Beetle to someone that KNOWS VW'S and no one else. Ask people in this club twice BEFORE your make a purchase or you will have to deal with a lip slashing from The Godfather    Oh and last but not least have fun because that's what it's all about. Have a great day and happy beetling

Welcome Beetle fan !!    Join us and prepare to have fun. I could take a look at your transmission . I'm a retired factory trained air-cooled mech. and was in the trenches with VW for 45 years. 4 speed Tranny work is a speciality .
As far as brake work goes I recommend Rick at R&M on Hy-way 58. His # is 423-305-1861.  I don't do brake work anymore due to the liability issue.
You can contact me at 894-3374 or P.M. me on this web site.
Again, Welcome and join us for our club meeting on May 18th, 7:00 at Ryans Steak House on Lee Hy-Way.  :thumbs-up:

Welcome aboard!   :hippy2:

For air-cooled stuff, well, there is a reason we call him the godfather . . . David (RetBugtech, Mr. Johnston, or whatever you want to call him) has forgot more about these little critters than most of us will ever know . . . and he still knows more about them than most of us will ever know.  Just don't pull up in his driveway in fuel injected bay window Westfalia camper bus or a mid-70's Dasher . . .

R & M is about the only business around that is "air-cooled friendly."  Rick does good work and reasonable.

There are also several club members who do a little wrenching on the side, and lots of us that do most of our own maintenance.  Help and advice is never far away . . . sometimes you might have to roll up your pants legs and wade through some stuff to get it    but it's all in fun.  Come hang out with us at our next meeting.   8)

Welcome,   most things on a vw you can fix with various household items.   sc

All vw's pop out of reverse. Its a VW safety feature,   the crunch zing zing sound is like the   beeper you hear when fork lifts back up,

I just think ahead so I don't have to use reverse.

It is a good fitness tool since you have to park way out in the lot,

It also saves gas since you wont be running up and down the parking lot looking for a up front space.

I really think SC is into dryer "Stuff" .  Maytag, Kenmore and maybe a little  speaker wire for the wiring. I hope he doesn't find a roll of primer cord thinking it would make good replacement wiring.

Unless you live within the "triangle" or you want to set up a model train or a slot car track inside your bug.    Look in the Tech Questions section and read all 50+ pages of the post "Help with a slow starter."  Then you'll understand what we're talking about.
