Has anyone seen this car??????

« on: December 12, 2013, 05:15:33 PM »

Ok folks, heres the story with this Gulf blue 63 ragtop-

My father sought this car out in the late 70's and bought it as the engine had failed, paint had faded and sunroof and interior had gotten ratty. He gave the car a nice once over giving it a fresh paint job, new interior and new engine. As a child I remember the car being parked in out basement and I would sit and listen to the shortwave radio until I ran the battery down (it was a 6v and didn't take long :)) We would take it out for a ride occasionally and I really have some great childhood memories with it. In the mid 80's dad sold it to a friend who parked it in his garage and let it sit untouched.. Then in about 93, I told a friend of mine about the car and he approached the owner and bought it. This is when the modifying was done- He lowered it in the front, raised it in the rear, installed the centerline wheels and a set of Honda seats :'( . He kept the car for a few years until I traded him a Rabbit Gti for it in 96 (this is when the pic was taken) . I kept the car for about a year and sold it to a guy named Mike who worked at advance auto parts. Several years later I ran into Mike (at advance auto) and asked him about the car and he told me that it had sold to an individual in the Bristol area who intended to do a full resto on the car. Mike couldn't give me any more info than that, and ive been struggling to find out more ever since... Ive searched and searched and no luck..

Of course I would like a chance to purchase the car, but, even if its not for sale, I would really like to know what happened to her...

If anyone has seen her, please let me know-

Thanks,
Chris

Chris, I'll pass this on to Justin.  He is working at Wallace Imports, the VW dealer in Johnson City, so he's up that neck of the woods.  You don't happen to know the VIN do you?

Thanks for the replies-

Ive looked for something with the vin on it and haven't had any luck. I do remember that there are a few things about the car that would identify it though. I think it may have been partially disassembled before it was sold to the individual in the Bristol area, but, im not sure..

I didnt know the guy that I sold it to very well, but, I think he was friends with a local guy named Rob who had a nice coral colored 56 bug. He may have also been a friend of Fielding, but, im not sure on that either- Ive definitely slept since then.

If anybody has any leads, please let me know-

Thanks,
Chris

Thanks!

The older I get, the more I like talking about VW's. It costs a whole lot less money than actually restoring one ;D
