I think if ever went to that much trouble paining my bus, I would paint the bumpers before I put them back on . . . but then, I'm probably never going to go to that much trouble to paint my bus.  A few rattle cans of Krylon every couple of years works for me!

I've entertained this idea ever since I saw this thread: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=320572

There are a lot of good tips (and nay Sayers) in that thread but it will probably be something I do when I get the gaping rust holes filled in. I believe that that samba thread has some stock paint colors that you can get mixed at Ace Hardware with their rustoleum brand. It sure beats a couple hundred on just the paint at the auto paint supply places.

Ace will color mix their brand of rustolium.
Look at my thread to see the yellow 1970 Westie I painted with The tinted ace brand.
I took the Engine lid with the OEM color polished out and had them mix it, it turned out great.
I shot it with a Home depot HVLP gun I had outside 3 days before BAP.
Used Acetone I believe to thin it down for the HVLP. Just played with the mixture.
Didn't run all that bad and I was done i two coats.
