Great Conversation

« on: September 30, 2008, 11:15:44 PM »
Durring work tonight i steped out back to use the phone and saw a couple taking some pictures of a green newer beetle with a wind up key on the back. Well i told them that it ( the key ) moved while the car was driving around. They thought that was great and told me they were from Germany. Well after that the long conversation was on about Volkswagons and Volkswagon clubs and shows both here and in Germany. The last one there they had gone too they said it had around 2000 Volkswagons. I was impressed and we talked about BP10 for a bit and the new plant comming here. A few minutes later i had to get back inside but it was great talking with them about our favorite vehicles both here and there and how the customizing or restoring is the same and different from country to country.

Thats pretty neat.  I had a similar thing happen in Helen Ga in '73.  We were driving my brand new orange "Thing". We hadn't stepped out of the Thing for a min. when a older couple came over and wanted to know all about the car. They were German and I could just understand what they saying.  It turned out that the old "feller"  was a WW-2 German vet and was the driver for a officer in France in the early 40"s .  He drove a Kubelwagen most of the time and sometimes a  Beetle staff car . He looked to be in his late 70"s and still knew everything about those cars and compared his Kubel to my new "Thing" also a few war stories.  Needless to say he got my attention. We must have talk for a hour just standing on the curb.
His wife and my wife dissappeared for awhile. When they showed back up , his wife presented me with a pair of peel and stick West German shields and told me to put them on the "Thing" to make it proper. I did right then and there. After that encounter Helen Ga seemed far away.

I love going to Helen Ga. A great city to visit from time to time. Unfortunately the last time i went was way too long ago. This couple were in their mid to upper 20's. She did not speak english but he did rather well but with a strong German accent. I am sure that we could have stood there for an hour also and taked but i had to get back to work. I would have showed them mine but the wife was installing a new windo regulator in my drivers door. The one i got one day shy of 3 months ago " just snaped at the window crank part. So she went to Mainly and they gave her a new one and she reinstalled it. Works great. Roadkill will be back on the road today.
