Grateful!

« on: July 26, 2008, 08:34:13 PM »
A big thanks to Brian for helping out so much today!  Hauling "Haze" from ATL to Chattanooga was so generous and Chris and I are extremely grateful.  Also, Moose and Kyle-thank ya for the pointers.  Still in need of gettin' that work done on the brakes and the gas tank.  Keep your fingers crossed that it'll be in good shape after that is taken care of.  If anyone is interested in A PAYING job to fix'er'up, let me know!  Email is journeysname@yahoo.com, I check it several times a day....
See ya'll at the drive-in! 8)

Hey Journey, from what I've heard it sounds like the tank might need to be removed and flushed. Not an easy task without first dropping the engine because the tank resides behind the firewall. If you drop the engine it's a good time to open up the firewall and address the fuel tank, along with the hoses on the vent lines and the fuel filler neck. Also a good time to replace your fuel sender on top of the tank.

Also I heard you don't have a gas cap, I just had a real nice original Blau cap for sale but someone already got it. However I do still have an aftermarket locking gas cap, it's not pretty but it would be better than nothing, or better than a ball of aluminum foil which I think might be worse than nothing!

I was going to ask you about that...Too bad you already got rid of it.  Yes, the ball of aluminum foil isn't exactly my cup of tea.  I could use the locking gas cap.  I am not mechanically inclined at all, so all that stuff you said, I need to learn more about.  No clue over here.

You are welcome to the aftermarket gas cap then. Also if you want to learn then this site will be your new best friend: http://www.ratwell.com/

Nobody's compiled more articles and information on bay window buses than Ratwell.

Don't worry, your in the right place.  We might pick on each other a little from time to time . . . OK, why lie, we DO pick on each other a LOT, ALL the time, but it's all in fun.  We are all friends here.

I think the Godfather (a.ka. David, a.ka. RetBugtech) used to keep a can or two of Bus-Be-Gone on the shelf next to his wasp spray.  He's been working on VWs longer than a lot of us have been around.  He has a special love for Bugs . . . But I sometimes get the feeling that he might not be quite as fond of a fuel injected, type 4 powered Bay Window Bus as he is an old Beetle.

And yes, he checks this forum.  I'm sure he'll chime in here soon . . .

I am eager to look at your bus and do what I can to get it on the road.

My only problem right now is time and money.  I am in the process of moving to a new place (can you say, "Out in the sticks"?) and right now I can't even afford to put gas in my bus :(

This weekend is not good either, for I am supposed to go camping (hahaha, good luck with that), but soon...soon, I want to "diagnose" your bus.

Type IV?  Ain't skeered.

Pimping it out does not make it run any better Virgo
I do not work on Type-4 powered Type-2's.   I worked on those "things" for 35 years and enough is enough.I will be happy to anwser questions about your van but thats it.
I'll be more than happy to let Travis (aka GoBusGo) and a few others to take care of your van and they will do you a good job.
