I bought my first VW, and several down this long road, from old Red. He was tough as nails and a pain in the ass. But if you were lucky enough to get to know him and hang around there a bit, you learned that he had a heart of gold.
Farewell, old man.... Godspeed

I remember Red. He would come by my shop once in a while looking for something. He was a salty and crusty old Dude as I recall, then lost contact.  Sorry to read about his passing. Ain't a whole lot of us old A/C Dudes left. Jim Lockhart and I were talking the other day trying to count heads of who is still "upright" either from the dealerships or independent shops in the area.  The list is getting shorter. Kind of depressing.
So its up to you "Young'uns" to keep a log on the fire.

I remember Red as well.  Dealt with him a couple of times, once when Jim and I went looking for some body parts a number of years ago for one of Jim's friends.  Salty and Crusty sums him up pretty darned well from what I remember too, David.  And don't worry, we'll keep a log on the fire. ( I just can't let Scott play with the matches). Come to think of it, I have some old Dasher manuals around here....perhaps we might stoke the fire with those?
