Not true! Kennedy sells an adapter plate to fit a 2.8l V6 GMC 60 degree motor into a bus... Zen has one in his S10! Its only a matter of time!

Yes it is a 2 stroke. A one cylinder version lurks in East Ridge apart. A antique engine club I use to be active in owns it. There is a 3 cylinder version in Adams Tn. that is bigger than the one you show. It does shake the ground when it runs.  Those guys started it up with a cigarette . It had a 3hp Fairbanks hit & miss engine pulling a compressor to supply the compressed air to turn the engine over. One Guy would pull the engine over with a pole stuck in the flywheel to get # 1 cylinder on TDC. Another Guy would be up on a 10 ft. ladder to stuff a lighted cigarette in a chamber on top of the cylinder #-1.  A third Guy would throw a lever to feed the air to turn the engine over. If all went well she would start right up. Really something to watch.

Oh, Our engine had a 24"dia (I think) cast iron piston that weight about 400 pds. Even KC would have fun with this one. It took 3 HD three axle low boy trailers to get it to Chatt. from Fla. It took 3 days allowing for all the break downs. Tires etc.

I love antique engines!  There was a huge single cylinder gas engine at an antique store near Huntsville a few years back.  It was stuck from sitting for years, but I would have loved to have gotten my hands on it.  The place wanted a thousand bucks for it . . . it was probably worth close to that just for scrap.  It was massive . . . not as massive as that big diesel, but it sure wasn't a Maytag washing machine motor.  The guy said the story that went with it was that it used to run a big sawmill.

But I guess if I ever get into antique engines, I should start with washing machine motor . . . at least I could haul it around!   ;)

I use to be into "Hit & Miss" engines for a long time. My real pride and joy was a 1903 Mietz & Weiss  semi-diesel . About 2000 pd's for 3 hp.  I bought this engine from Auburn Univ. It was in their science lab and it had not a days work its whole life and was about to hauled to the junk yard. Ran like a champ. I have restored about 50 old engines. I'll have to show my scrap book.

I'd love to see it!  I've actually been looking around for a cheap hit and miss engine for the past couple of months.  I have come to the conclusion that "Cheap" and "Hit & Miss Engine" are not allowed to be used in the same sentence anymore.

If this wasn't so far away, I'd get it.  It's the best deal I've found in two months of shopping.   http://chambana.craigslist.org/atq/3086492895.html

Until I can afford a gas engine version, I'll have to stick to my electric one.  It was only $25.  And yes, it still works.   ;D

That Maytag is a deal.  You can buy every piece in parts for the engine. A friend of mine's wife went to a yard sale one day and came home with not only a running Magtag washer but a lot of Magtag accessories like the meat grinder, Ice cream freezer. You just slip off the ringer and slide the accessories in ,crank her up and off you go. I have restored a wad of those little engines both the single cyl. and the 2 cyl opposed engine. The little twin was a very smooth and quite running.

That Maytag washer/engine is just an 8 hour trip away (each way).  I figured the milage and gas cost (at $3.50 a gallon and getting 23 mpg) and it looks like it would cost $135 for gas.  That would make the package cost one day and $310.  Hummmm . . . I'm tempted.  VERY Tempted.  But I do like living in my house and sleeping on a good mattress every night.  Still, it's tempting . . .  ;D
