The story doesn't mention the Formula Ford I got hung up behind (a faster car class with a slower driver) for the first 5 laps while the Vee leader got away.  He could pull away in the straights, but I was all over him in the turns.  I finally forced my way by in the "esses".  Still, playing in traffic (not to mention giving the Ford he//) was fun!
