Flinstone Media Blasting

« on: January 13, 2009, 05:37:33 PM »
Howdy - I have at least five coats of paint on my bug*, so I need to get it media blasted.

I was at the "World of Wheels" car show this weekend, and there was a set of business cards for Flintstone Media Blasting.  Since I am in St. Elmo, and I need to deliver the car as stripped down as possible, a place in Flinstone would be ideal.

Does anybody know anything about this place? Pricing? Service? The usual questions.  They apparently take anything that needs media blasting. Am I better off going to a shop that does nothing but cars?

Thanks

Bill

*For historical interest, those colors are Bahama Blue, Lemon Yellow, Kelly Green, Light Gray, Dark Gray.  It's a 66, so basically it was repainted every 10 years (and not by me!) with what ever was the most popular car color that decade.

I have used Flintstone Media blasting for some engine tin and a bus belly pan.  He seems to be reasonable and they did a good job.  He has the room to do the whole car.  Just go by and talk to him and he will give you the grand tour.  BTW- he can be a bit long winded so make sure your not in a hurry when you go see him. :D

Howdy Travis -

I was at the W of W from noon till 4.30 on Sunday, and the show was winding down. Not too crowded. Maybe 100-150 vehicles, mostly American show cars from the 50's-1970's.  Most (at least the ones I actually looked at) were either stock or mild custom jobs.

Being Tennessee, I was expecting at least three black "Bandit" Trans Ams - but there was just one - with the ugliest hood scoop you could imagine. It looked like a shiny black slug was crawling down the hood. There was a beautiful early 50's red Corvette convertible, but no VW's.

"Enos" from The Dukes of Hazzard was doing photos with a General Lee ($20 I think) He has a beard now, and is really looking more like Uncle Jessy - but he was busy. Dora the Explorer, and some heartthrob from High School Reunion were also there.  They were less busy.

Very small vendor presence - and most of that was either Hot Wheels or clothing. A few oil additives, and a tub resurfacing company (I guess everybody has a tub!)

$14 for admission, $5 for parking, $1 for a coke, $2 for Ice Cream (yeah, I know it's cold outside) for about 4 hrs of entertainment.  I will probably do it again next year.

The best thing you can say about the W.O.W. is it hits at just about the time of year you'd go anywhere to see a car show! And they let the Soddy-Daisy band work admission/security to help pay for the Rose Bowl trip!
Where was I...er...Bam-Bam...
Oh yeah, Flintstone
They do LOTS of cars, so no prob there. I've had him do some wheels and doo-dads and they did well.
Long-winded? Yes.
