Engine/driving question

« on: January 09, 2006, 09:44:06 PM »
Hello again and thanks for the warm welcome to the forum.  I am still in Atlanta and will be moving to Chattanooga permanently in a few months--look forward to coming to the club meetings.  I finally got my convertible Ghia project to idle pretty much OK (keep in mind I know zilch about mechanics).  The engine is new so it's running pretty good.  However it idles well, when I start driving it the engine stalls.  It's as if it is getting too much (or too litlle?) gas when I decide to pull away.  Any help w/ what kind of adjustment or problem this sounds like will be appreciated.  Thank you very much,
Carlos

Hi Carlos, There are several things that can cause your stalling problems. Incorrect timing, booster pump in the carb,  using a mech. advance distributor with a Pict 34mm carb and a few other things. Before You start twisting on things, I would try to find some other VW owners and see where they take their cars for service or if the owners could help you out. You can get into big trouble if certain things are not done correctly. When you move up here we will enroll you in our VW 101 DIY class and you will be a pro in no time. We have a lot of folks that are pretty doggone savey on these "critters".  We will leave the light on for you.
