Drag Racing - What do you think??

« on: October 24, 2002, 06:54:32 AM »
I ran this by Zen last night on the Live Chat on STF. There are several people that are installing (have installed) some serious engines in their cars. I was thinking about taking our car to the strip while we were at Bug-A-Paluza next year and getting some of the V-8 drivers attention. I am running this by some of the people in our club to get their feedback. Think this might be some type side action to the show. I know we went over there at the 2001 show and saw some very good racing. I really like the track a lot. Just a passing thought for consideration. I think it would get a lot of attention and be the talk of the area for a while. Thanks for the time.

I like the idea.  Is there anyone in the club that is familiar with the drag strip?  ???

The only race I hope to win is, um...against another bus...maybe...

I am not familiar with the track, but it sounds like a good idea to me. I imagine most of us club members would be too busy the day of the show to leave and watch some racing, but if there's a chances some VWs (esp. air-cooled) can show up some muscle cars, I'm for it.

The idea is to go to the races at night after the show. It would be fun to show up as a group. The track people if they can be contacted and if enough want to do some runs, could advertise it and maybe draw them in more people. It could be a win-win for everyone. It would expose more people to our hobby (or obsession) which ever the case may be and the track could have a larger crowd. The car show could also draw more people the next day from some of the drag crowd. Just my idea?

Brainerd Optimist Club Drag Strip
1481 Scruggs Road
Ringgold, GA  30736

I can contact them, but it might be better if someone who knew what they were talking about did it.  The only drag strip I know about it dragging three junk beetles into the back yard and trying to strip enough parts to get one of them going!   :p
If I contact them, what do I need to find out?
 ???
I'd love to see some air-cooled VWs show up a few muscle cars and rice-burners . . . especially the rice-burners!!!

While you are at it could you remove the 3.5' tall vynil "R" from the 4 corners of your Hyundai, we can't take the extra 5HP (each) that you get from those ;)

While your at it, take that coffee can off the end of your exhaust pipe.  I hear that's good for another 10 HP!   :p

Thanks for the address & phone number Zen. As soon as I get some feedback from the local people I will contact you. What I thought was maybe just a few runs to show the crowd that you do not have to have a V-8 or souped up riceburner to put up good numbers. Who knows, some of the folks might want to actually do some competition runs. The overall idea was to expose our cars and club(s) to the local people that may never find out any other way. Thanks for all the replies. Oh and Ricerboy, you don't stand a chance!!!!

Now I happen to know that rice tastes good with kraut.  I've been known to have them both on the same "plate".  After the rice is cooked, completely cover with hot kraut, season to taste, and enjoy!   :p

True, GoBusGo, but you know that the RICE would be tasteless if you did not have the KRAUT with it. LOL

Even with kraut, the rice is still tastless!  It's just there to fill a void 'cause it's cheap and plentiful.   :D

I think Brainerd does a lot of "run-what-ya'-brung" type racing.  Unless they're having some kind of special weekend, I don't imagine it would be any problem.
