Debris-part 2: Nordschliefe+swing axle edition

« on: October 10, 2012, 09:21:49 AM »
This is a great illustration of the swing-axle "wheel tuck" phenomenon. A decreasing-radius (tightening) turn at the Nurburgring which catches drivers out and causes them to lift/brake mid-turn. Rear lifts, camber goes seriously positive, sometimes tire comes off rim, car rolls. After the first few cars we start to see the Beetles as well as other swing-axle cars (you can tell by the camber angle of the wheels after the car ends up on its roof). Soooo, let's be careful out there!

All but two beetles landed on their wheels. The other two ALMOST did, but didn't quite finish rolling over. This leads me to believe they are like cats. Lucky that the 'vert didn't go over.

Lots of doors popped open. Pretty scary!

Imagine what those cars would be worth now, if they hadn't have crashed!

Did you notice that the roofs didn't collapse very much on the Bugs

It would be interesting to watch a "Covey" of type-2's try to take that on. Any bets on the outcome ? ;D ;D
