Heat? Heat? We don't need no stinkin' heat!
Bring an electric heater for the campout. You can pick one up at Wally World for under 20 bucks that will keep a bus warm on a chilly night. As for the trip . . . plan it so you do most of the traveling in north GA during the afternoon. If it turns out sunny, solar heat will keep the frostbite away . . . if it's not sunny, dress warm and wear gloves. Another, slightly more expensive alternative is a small portable propane heater.
Homer the SuperBus has heater boxes, but one pumps exhaust into the cab. It's hot, but you have to roll the window down and hang your head out to breath . . . kind'a defeats the purpose so I don't use that one. The other one doesn't have a lever, but I did manage to jam it open about a 1/4 of the way. If it's over 60 degrees, I can feel a little heat coming out of the defroster. After a while, you just get used to no heat.
