Thats to bad. Couldn't buy it back huh.
Do you want a S.C. type of bus or one that actualy functions ?
Finding a Bus that runs, goes up and down the road, stops when it is suppose to , having everything electrical operating on any given day and not able to see the ground through the floors without being totaly restored is going to be hard to find unless you have gotten a Federal Grant or your War Pension kicked in.  Maybe you will get lucky.

:? Homer was only $400!  And that was the second time I bought him.  He was only $75 the first time.  Of course he didn't run and had a lot of electrical problems at that time . . . but the brakes worked great!  In fact, it took dragging it around a field with a tractor for half an hour before they ever turned loose!    Besides that, paint and floors are a little over-rated in my opinion.  As long as it will go and stop, the rest is just details.  There are still some bargins out there if you look hard enough!

Good Lord !!!!!    Well at least its the right color or should I say it was the right color.  If you are thinking about buying this thing, you had better look at the frame rails very closely.  If the engine is "crapped"  out you are in for a treat.  I think you need to start working on that Grant.
S.C. You are fixing to get way over your head and your budget.
I think you can find something a whole lot better. If you are bound and determined to have a Type-2, I would stick with '71 or older van.
If you think Stupey was a problem to keep on the road just wait .

Like he says in the ad, that's a parts vehicle and not good for much else. I'd stay away.

Here's a couple of early bays that look much better.

Those are much better and can be repaired cheaper than that "tetnus" model.  At least they run so they say.  Worth looking at. Good years also.

I found a 73 bus with a pancake motor.  for a Grand.    The wires are all hanging from the dash, (looks like something I would do) but it starts.  I've  got a hankering to buy it.  SC

Buyer beware !!!!!!!    You better check on those Type-4 pancake engines for some kind of history.
S.C, I don't know how to put this other than say, if you are not going to spend any money on fixing something simple on Stupey , You are going to be in big, big trouble trying to get a 72 up van going. Granted we have some nice vans in the club , but they were not junk to start with.
You better have Deep pockets my friend.

He doesn't need deep pockets . . . He lives in "the triangle!"    All those wires hangin' under the dash probably go to stuff that don't work anymore anyway (like headlights and turn signals) . . . It's REAL easy to convert it to a type 1 . . . If the brake booster goes bad, he can copy Homer's setup and just bolt on a stuper beetle master cylinder and not use the booster.

You need deep pockets to keep a bus on the road if you do it right . . . but keep in mind that I gave $400 for Homer . . . I've put 5 engines and a tranny in it, replaced all the brakes, the generator several times, a handfull of regulators, a couple of starters, two sets of tires, all the steering parts, the CV axles and various other bits and pieces . . . all added up, it's still under $2500!

And what did that $2500 get me?  Well, I've probably put 100,000 miles on it.  I've camped out in many times, hauled all kinds of junk, won several trophies and plaques, and met countless interesting people, and came up with enough stories to write a book . . .

If I had deep pockets, I'd have a nice bus done right.  I'd be afraid to drive it.  I wouldn't break down and get to met interesting people on the side of the road.  I wouldn't have any funny stories to tell.  But, yeah, I'd have a nice bus.
