Cold Weather

« on: January 06, 2014, 08:15:03 AM »
Well...who made it in the work today?

I got to go in and the roads were better than normal. No traffic, a little dusty from the salt, but I had no problems at all. The shoulder of the interstate behind walmart in brainerd looked like a solid sheet of ice, but that was all that I saw.

Anyone actually see any snow from our "winter storm?"

No problems, except for the "extraordinarily overly cautious" - that should have stayed home!

I made it today . . . and on time for a change.  Didn't have to deal with school traffic so the trip went much better than usual.

Did you lose your job to LVT today?

They delayed opening the phone company by 2 hours today, so I went in at 10. No problems.

My 1/4 mile driveway was the only Ice I saw this morning.
Varnell's finest had sanded every thing else, even in my subdivision.
(My neighbor 2 doors down is a State Legislator, it has it's privilages).

Yep, it's Plant 44/64 in Ringgold that made area rugs is shutting down and being converted to LVT.  SI/SP are still making carpet backing.

I guess it's good that they are repurposing the plant rather than closing it. They aren't doing any layoffs there are they?

From an email from our CEO, Vance Bell -- "We plan to invest more than $100 million in this new LVT manufacturing facility, which is expected to generate 200 jobs when complete."  It also said we would be "exiting" the throw rug business.  It didn't give a lot of details on the timeline, but I'm sure there will be some lag time between shutting down the rug operation and starting up the LVT lines . . . which will probably mean some layoffs or transfers.  Our plant is hiring, so we'll probably get some of their lay offs IF they have any.

My experience has been that they will be offered another job at a local facility.
It will be their choice as to weather they take it or not.
