As a lot of you know, a group of us traveled to the Chilhowee National Campground for a weekend of relaxation and fellowship with our fellow club members. Things were fine until around 11pm Friday night when a female Park Ranger came into Travis and Linda and Moose and Christy's campsite and told them there were too many people in their camp site. She next came to our camp site and told us we had too many vehicles in ours. We had to double up because of limited space availability. I took our truck over and parked it in Big Toes driveway. This lady was told then that Moose would be moving across the road on Saturday. Each of us had paid $40 for the two nights we were staying except for Big Toe, who was going home Saturday night after we had our pot luck supper. The campers who were in the walk - in tent sites paid $30 each.
Everything was fine til 4:30 Saturday afternoon when this "lady" returned and in short order wrote Big Toe a $50 ticked for failure to pay his site fee. An explanation was attempted to no avail. The Toes loaded up imediately and left without being able to stay for supper. The evening and the rest of the weekend were ruined because of a "power hungry" park officer.
Each of us who camped paid our fees which means those of us who doubled in a campsite paid for the site twice. The U.S. Forestry Service made over $300 off of The Scenic City Volks Folks this past weekend but evidently that wasn't enough for this "lady". I really think she wanted blood. She has absoultely NO people skills.
We had talked earlier about making this camping trip an annual event but it would "Hair Lip ####" before any of us return to Chilhowee National Park to go camping.
The bottom line...............avoid this camp ground at all costs. The "lady" in question practices "selective enforcement"............in other words, if she likes your looks, you can do anything you want to but if she decides she doesn't like the way you look or what kind of vehicle you drive or what brand of soft drink you drink or anything else, she will find some chickens**t reason to harrass you write you a ticket. There were campers to the West of us who had 3 vehicles in their camping area and 11 people. To the East of us was another campsite with 9 people in it. According to her the max allowable is 6 people per campsite. The Chilhowee National Park will NOT get any more of my money.
