Anyone interested in a cold-weather camping trip the weekend of 12/11 or 12/18?

Where would you be thinking of going?

Chester Frost or Harrison Bay, I think. Polk County would be nice, but MUCH colder.

I like cold weather camping . . . don't have to worry 'bout bugs and snakes and the bears "should" be sleeping.  There's nothing like roasting marshmellows over a campfire on a crisp winter night . . .

If you are in the mood for some REAL cold weather camping, the Dead of Winter Campout at Cloudland Canyon State Park is coming up the first full weekend in February.  The time I went it was about 20 degrees Saturday night, mid 40s in the daytime.  I hear that last year it came complete with snow.

Yup-no bugs. That's a good thing. Yeah, I think my favorite part is the campfire. And snuggling up in my sleeping bag. Feb. sounds good, but I'd still like to go sooner.

Sorry, but every weekend in December I've got a gig (tis the season).  The D.O.W. campout is a lot of fun, though!  We should think about doing that one.  By Feburary, I'm dying to get out of the house!

Yeah, ok. So that didn't work out. Too much going on. But I hope we can get a big crew togther for Feb. Where is it normally located?
Two questions about Chilhowee: What's up with a bleep-bleep-bleep up there who doesn't like us? AND exactly how hard is it on a bus to get up Chilhowee? I haven't braved any big mountains yet.

The Dead of Winter Campout is always held at Cloudland Canyon State Park (GA).  That's on top of Lookout Mt. just off GA Hwy. 136 between LaFayette and Trenton.

I didn't attend the Chilhowee affair so I'll let someone else fill you in on that.  But on the mountains . . . Homer the SuperBus has cruised over Monteagle, Lookout Mt. and Sand Mt. many, many times.  He's geared for a 1700 Type 4 since that's what he left the factory with, but he's now (under) powered by a stock 1600 Type 1.  Still, he'll take about any hill or mountain you can throw at him . . . just as long as you're not in a hurry!  Homer is a good ol' bus.  He'll take up in the mountains if that's where you really want to go, but personally, he prefers flat ground.  In fact, he was telling me the other day that he wanted to take another trip to Florida.  He won't admit it, but I think he likes warm weather too.

You know, I really need to fix that exhaust leak!

Here's the thread from after Chilhowee http://forums.volksfolks.org/viewtopic.php?t=349

As to the mountains, it should be fine, just be sure not to lug it in a gear that's too tall for the grade.  The engine's much happier spinning higher in a lower gear even if the driver's not happy about being the front of a line of cars pulling the grade at 35MPH!  Take your time and wave 'em by. 8)

When is the Dead of Winter campout. The Cloudland website doesn't list it on thier event calendar for January or February.

Okay so I figured out from the events forum that the date is the weekend of February 4-6. What I want to know is if anyone is bringing a TV or is this event going to be dispersed by the time they kick off in the Superbowl?
