In Fort Oglethorpe....A Police Officer has been shot at the Chick Filet on Battlefield Parkway.

UPDATE: NewsChannel9's just confirmed from Fort Oglethorpe police chief David Eubanks that the officer's body armor deflected the shot intended for him. We are still unclear on the officer's condition, but this is welcome news. Chief Eubanks also tells NewsChannel9 there was an active warrant out for the suspected shooter. Eubanks says a Walker County deputy pulled the suspect over and called for assistance from Fort Oglethorpe.

According to witnesses the bad guy is dead. We deal with a lot of Police Officers here and ask that everyone pray for this Officer and the bad guys family as well. He may be a bad guy but he is someone's son or brother :(

I have several friends (and probably several enemies) in local law enforcement.  Does anyone know the name of the officer who was shot?

A lady I work with said yesterday morning when we first heard this had happend that she bet it was David Coats . . . her sister knows his x-wife quite well.  From everything I've heard, the officers did the best they could with a very bad situation.  Too bad someone didn't get this guy help before it came to this.

I wonder if this is the same Mitchell Moore who worked for Collegedale Police Dept. many years ago. One bad eye (I heard it was glass?) and a penchant (at least years ago) for pulling people over for the slightest infraction. Got him in trouble with the dept. People were lodging complaints that he kept pulling them over for no reason. I guess there was some weight to it if he actually got in trouble over it.

Sucks he got shot, and I assume he is ok. Sucks for the one who did get killed.
