Yea Feeb's a split year...She's special :D  NADA goes back to 1946 for classic cars. Luckywinner69 think about this your grandmother is the proud owner of a beautiful 69 VW for less than $1000.00. You can challenge the value via NADA with the State but good luck. I say you got a good deal. See David FeeBee is in a catagory all her own. I've been trying to tell you she's special and now I have proof

What is FeeBee's total vin # ?      You use to be able to get birth cert. from VWAG(factory). I guess you still can. You ought to try to get it.

I agree that the respray proably hurt its value a little, but they did do a pretty good job with it.  I looked it over pretty good and the only blue I saw was inside the inner pannels on the top part of the deck lid . . . and you have to look hard to find it.

Really nice older Beetles are going for some outragous prices on the west coast . . . but $13,000 is too much for that car in this area.  The "real" value is what someone is willing to pay.  If the right person came along and wanted a Beetle to drive every day, they loved yellow and 1969 was a special year for them (maybe they were born in '69, their first car was '69 Beetle, etc.) and they had the money to spend, it might actually bring $13,000 . . . but I wouldn't hold my breath.

You might want to run it on eBay with a high reserve and see what happens.  I would definitly get with Blood Assurance try to get them to lower the value.  On a positive note, if you won a new car valued at $13,000 today, within 10 years it would probably be worth whatever scrap metal is bringing.  As long as you keep it in the condition it's in now, the Beetle will be worth more each year. 8)

The Vin is 1512744239 which would make her a 71. I remember several months ago someone posted the information about the Birth Certificate does anyone remember where to find that? I think with a Birth Certificate her value just went up.

Here's information on how to request a birth certificate from VW: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=398

The cost is 35 Euros, which as of right now is about $48.

-Yeah, it goes up about $50.
A birth cirtificate will not qualify as a title.
Do some searching on the subject on the samba, you'll see that some are not pleased with their purchase.
I believe I remember that if you send them the engine # they will tell you if that is the original or not, they just will not list the original engine # for you.  - If I remember correctly, it has to do with some German law.

-Good luck,
Let us know what happens.

It should be stamped somewhere on the case.

Your engine # is right under the gen. stand.   I would bet that this is not the original case that FeeBee came with due to the engine being replaced by your Nephew or before by somebody else.  I rebuilt FeeBee's engine with the case that you had .   I think the # started with the letters AE which is Identical with the original case if it was indeed replaced. All you need is the vin# as I don't recall the engine # ever being on a Title, at least in Tn.
So NADA has a classic car listing ?   All I remember is a blue book and a black book. The black book was the one that was used to screw the customer with
Another reason for the lack of info on engine #'s was that when the Bug was king in Germany , the dealers would just swap engines out if you had a major problem. It was cheaper than overhauling at the dealer level.  VW would call these exchange engines  KD ( factory rebuilt) so you would end up with a different engine #
Get this. When I worked at the dealer  way back, a 40hp KD engine was exchanged for  a $165.00 and I got paid $9.00 to install it and I had to put the muffler and the clutch on.  :?

You are correct David. I can remember way back when we used the NADA while the Dealers were still using the Black/Blue book and they were a lot lower than NADA. You are still getting screwed but at least your getting screwed by both parties now    Just kidding  NADA is a better source for the consumer. Dang the good ole days!
