I wonder what it'd take to get a h2O bay in the US...

Still zero as long as the front seats ride over the front wheels.

That's interesting. I'd like to have a new one, but not for that price. When we stopped in Mexico on the Honeymoon, they had tons of H2O buses. I really liked the way they looked and wanted to bring one back, but I think the process is quite lengthy.

I think it is a lot easier if they are over 25 years old or something, so if you could find a late 80s bay with the 1.8, you could probably do it without too much hassle. It would still suck though. Its hard enough to register an old vehicle with all sorts of paperwork and declaration of values and crap...I can only imagine what it would take to get one imported...

I think they were getting Mexi beetles in here by starting with a 60s or 70s pan and then transferring everything on top of that. As far as the tag office knew it was a domestic chassis with a VIN. Since buses are unibody that wouldn't be as easy to do.

The VIN Plate on a bay window bus is fastened to the dash.  The dash is EZ to change!  The VIN is also stamped in the engine bay, but that shouldn't be too hard to "fix" if you wanted to.
