Virgo, Holy Cow !!!  Bless your heart I didn't know you went through that. One thing for sure, You are "Dead On " the button on whats going on with our kids today . It seems that sometimes good Parents can not deal with things like this no matter how hard they try. I guess when you bring a child into the world you do your best and keep your fingers crossed.

There is no doubt in my mine you will make it out of this mess. You are a very strong person and we all have to press on no matter how many pot holes that are in the road.

As per Davids sugestion: SFC Rigsby US Army Recruiter on Lee hwy. Nice guy and can take care of that lack of responsibilty/respect you kid seems to suffer from
.
When I was younger my mom was a big enabler herself. I got in trouble she got me out. When I was 18 and thought hanging around thugish types was cool I got in trouble but then I had to get myself out of it. I joined the Army when I was 20 after another bout with wrong place wrong friends and after about 6 months of Army life I learned how to follow rules and be accountable for my own actions...really not a bad idea.

Bottom line regardless of how you learn it....follow the rules or be prepaired to pay the price. If the price is more than you want to pay....dont break the rule.

Ok Sc...baby steps...If the Army is not a option try talking to the DA if it's Walker County don't talk to the ADA she's mean  . Tell him to convey to the Judge that you want to teach Speedy a lesson. Ask for community service instead of a fine but don't let your son know that you had intervened again. Now the community service is for your son not you  . They will work with you on this if you have not asked for favors in the past my son has a IQ of 173 but can't get himself out of the rain so I know where your coming from.

He might even look good wearing the dreaded Orange vest and toting a plastic bag on the weekends especially when his friends drive by waving/laughing.

That's what I'd try to make happen.    Nobody's out any money, the side of the road is a little cleaner, and he has plenty of time to think "If I just obeyed the law . . ."

well,  Now that is alot of pleasant and not so much pleasant advice.  The kid is 18 and  does drive his Autistic brother to school and home every day.  He has not been arrested in years  and is doing alright in school.  No drugs that I know of and is on Cross Country team .  I pretty much kept him from working based on the fact that  I've been working since I was 12 and looking back,   I wished I had played alittle more when I was young .  I'm sure as hell sick of working now.    Maybe letting my kids  have some fun is high school would be a good Idea.   The ticket is crap.  IF he was speeding  drinking and driving ,.  Ya Ok  ticket jail etc.   But a lesson for forgetting to have your lights on ain't worth $120 bucks. .. 25 bucks max.   I'm proud of the boy.  I just need to teach him how to be nice to folks who can ticket you.   I'll see the DA and find out how he can work this of.  I ain't got it in me to beat a kid down for leaving his lights off.   SC

The problem is NOT how goofy the law may or may not be (when Canada made daytime lights law the fatalaties dropped by a huge percentage), and it isn't whether not the fine is too much (which it IS!). The problem is the attitude that he displayed to the cop. I'm betting we would never have heard about this situation had he been respectful. Heck I'd rather fake a suck-up attitude to Barney Fife than pay such a rediculous fine. Years ago, a buddy and I got pulled over for drag racing. He got his "I've been wronged" attitude going as soon as he saw the blue lights. He mouthed off until they dragged him out of his '70 442 and hand-cuffed him on the East Brainerd road pavement. I "yes sir-ed" and "no sir-ed" until I felt gay but they told me to get in the drivers seat and to "get my ass home!". Like most of us here, I'm learning this parenting thing as I go, but you had better figure out how to make the boy show more respect to authority...or keep pumping $$$ into Walker County.

Enough about bratty kids let's talk about something else we can't control.....Like How's Stupie? Give me a update on all your bratty VW'S I want to live through your lives. Here's my update. FeeBee still sits alone in the Garage unable to cough up that hairball that's been hung in her throat for 2 months.

Well it was court date this week.
I had the boy shave ,comb his hair,  wear a Clean SHirt.  It is  amazing how many people go to court looking like me on the day after New years.

I was abit nervous,  the first few folks got tagged for shop lifting,  The Judge was not a big fan of the 5 finger discount.   $425 and 5 days community service.  Ouch.   A Lot of folks,  needed time to pay a traffic tickets and he either gave them time to pay it off or  cut the ticket a little ,  or both.

One funny moment was that the judge stopped calling folks and asked us if it was alright if he didn't call us up in alphabet order.  We all said " SUre Judge"/  There was a guy he knew who always had to wait cause his last name started with "W".  So Mr W, went up and  Thanked the judge,  When the Judge asked him if he did the whatever it was.  He Said.  "I'm Guilty as Sin",  Judge said "Ok Pay the fine."

So, it was showtime for my son.

Judge:   " Why where you out driving at 3am with your lights off?.
Son:   " No Sir ,  It was day time and sprinkling
Judge:   "Hmmm, Daytime...",  looks to the fella on the right"
Judge:  "OK  50 dollars,  can you pay that?"
Son:   "No sir I don't have a job,  I was hoping for community service"
Judge:  "OK, When can you work it off"
Son:   "after 3:00 or on Sat
Judge:  "Why can't   you do your time if you don't have a job?"
Son:   "I'm in High School"
Judge:   Pauses a moment  "OK I want you to  pick up trash for four         hours        on your own and to turn your lights on when it was raining,
Son:   "Yes Sir Thank you Sir

The Judge was great and the Hwy 27 is going look good at the Reed road exit.  SC

It's amazing what a little respect for the court (clean shirt, combed hair) and respect for the judge (Yes Sir, No Sir), admission of guilt and the right answers will get you!
