Appraisals

I talked to State Farm about getting a declared value policy on my bus. They said they'll need an appraisal first, anyone know someone who can do that?

I thought that was up to the Ins. Co.   My Ins. Co., American Modern(sub for Geico) for Albert ask ME for a value and they issued the policy FULL coverage for that amount . Cost $110 per year.  Check other Co's that deal with antique /vintage auto's. Are you using a antique car tag ?

No antique car tag. They are not permanent in GA so you still have to renew them each year, for the same price as a regular tag. I always thought declared value insurance meant I tell them how much I want it insured for and then they write me a policy on that. I've never heard of having to get an appraisal. I'd like to get the bus covered for $12k.

I'll check with American Modern, Hagerty wouldn't touch mine because it's a camper. Grundy won't write a policy on a single vehicle anymore, they want you to move all your vehicles over.

I got a quote from American Modern for $154/year. No appraisal needed. I'll probably just go with them. Thanks!

Russ my sister works at state farm i just insured my car there. the only thing I sent was the vin # and pic.  I called and asked her  about it and she said the only case would be if you  have a car that is worth 1000 and try to insure it for 20000 as an example. but that it was rare.  give them a call at KC Willey state farm  706-278-2511.  I had it with hagerty for 150 a yr and now its 90 with the same full coverage

Yeah but in GA they have a Model T on the antique tag and I don't really want a Model T on a VW.

As of 2012, the cost of the "antique" tag in GA is the same as any other vanity plate.
This is why I run stocker plates on my junk...

you can use an old tag aslong as its no register to another person and that the tag is the same yr as your car pre 1971

I don't know if they changed it, but a couple of years ago they added a $35 fee for an Antique Vehicle tag.  It's exactly the same as a regular tag except that it has a picture of a Model T era car on it and it says Antique Vehicle.  Your car has to be 25 years old to qualify for one . . .

I had one on Homer for years, but when they wanted the $35 fee, I just turned mine in an got a regular tag.  I think about everybody else did too.  I can't think of the last time I saw one.
