Anyone Need A Free Key?

« on: July 28, 2004, 07:31:46 PM »
I need to do some 'sperimenting.  The only currentlly availible aftermarket ignition switch for pre-68 Beetles doesn't use a VW key.  I've FINALLY found the key blank number . . . it's an Ilco NE10.  The problem now is that I know what what I'm looking for, but I can't find it!  I've searched for over a month and can't find anyone who carries this blank.

So, I decided that if I can't find the correct key, I'll find one close enough to make it work.  I've dug through thousands of different key profiles I have (thanks to Ret.BugTech!) and I've found 3 different ones that will enter the keyway.  Two are probably too loose to work, but one seems to be a pretty good fit.  My problem is that I have a switch to test the fit of the keyway . . . but I don't have a key for it and it doesn't have any type of code on it, so I can't really tell for sure if it's gonn'a work.

Soooooooooo . . . anyone have an aftermarket switch in their pre-68 bug and want a free key . . . or two or three?  I'll "try" to make you one just to see if it works.

Barnie Bug, that belongs to Angel and Russ, has an aftermarket switch. I'm sure they would need and appreciate an extra key or 3.
