Anyone else use their beetle and tow bar combo a lot?

« on: January 31, 2011, 11:31:14 AM »
I had a CEL (for those used to the simple VWs, thats a check engine light) come on in my truck and after checking the codes and searching my records, there was a recall for the fuel sending unit/pump/6 other things in one. So I had to make an appointment to drop off my "reliable" vehicle" to get it fixed under warranty. Megan goes to work before I ever wake up, so there wan't really an option to hitch a ride to work. So I took care of it myself and towed Bonnie over to the dealership this morning, unhooked the tow bar, dropped the truck off and took my actual reliable vehicle to work today. I plan on swinging back by and picking up the truck, towing Bonnie home and easy-cheesy. No worries having to get someone to pick me up or get a ride or get a loaner car.

I've also used it when Megan was meeting up with friends to head out of town and didn't want to leave a car in the parking lot where they met. So I put a hitch on her SUV before she left and went to pick up her car in Bonnie after work.

Anyone else use their bug and tow bar combo a lot? Its one of my most favorite things about Bonnie

I agree, and yes, my tow bar has seen good use over the years.

At least it was under warranty... and I made sure to buy a vehicle that was relatively simple enough to fix without lots and lots of tied together systems and navigation systems tied to the radio and a/c... I wanted one that if one system went down, the rest of the car didn't suck to drive. And plus, its easier to replace just the radio, or just a switch, than the whole "one thing does it all" box. Dad went through that on the Chevy SSR.... radio amplifier went out and suddenly EVERYTHING stooped work- no more turn signal clicking or low gas "dings". That stuff is expensive to fix.

I like my simple truck and if it weren't under warranty, I'd be dropping the gas tank. But I must say, I like my simple Bonnie too!

I hear you, Nick.  I have told several that by switching cars, i moved up 4 model years but down 10 years in technology.  There is nothing wrong with keeping things simple.   ;)
