10 million trees down, power lines to hundreds of thousands of homes down, towns in all directions leveled, wind gust of upwards of a 100 miles per hour a time or two . . . I'm probably the only person in 100 mile radius of here that WANTED a limb to fall in their yard today . . .and yet, the limb still hangs.  ???  I just don't get it?   ???

I borrowed an idea from Kyle . . . I just took a rod and reel I bought 10 years ago out of the package, tied two Chrysler key blanks to the line and after a half dozen tries got it cast over the fork in the limb.  I lowered the keys to the ground, tied a rope on it, and wah-lah . . . I've got a rope around the limb!

I've pulled and tugged on it all afternoon . . . and yet, the limb still hangs.  I think I'm gonn'a tie it to my truck and see if it can pull it down . . .

Hey y'all, watch this!   ;D

Make sure you tie it to the back; the rear window probably needs to be replaced too!

I didn't make pictures and I made sure no one was around when I did this . . . I wrapped the rope around my trailer hitch, got a running start . . . the hitch held and the rope didn't break . . . and my S-10 came to a sudden stop and with the tires spinning forward, the limb pulled it back about 4 feet.  Tried it several times with the same results.  The D@## limb is still hanging tight!   ???

There comes a time when, no matter how bad it hurts his pride, a man must admit defeat.   :(

But, this isn't that time.  ;)  I'm not defeated, but I am calling for re-enforcements.  I'll make some video of Tom's Tree Service when I get them down here to take this limb down and grind it into mulch!  8)  It think's it's tough, but we'll see who wins this fight!   ;D

I admit to having to check the weight ratings on ladders at Lowe's before buying one....  :-[

Lets see...I got it at an estate sale of a family friend about 10 years ago. We remember moving his garage the two times before that (and everything was still where we moved it to...). I'd say other than when I got the set, it hadn't been out of the box in 20 years...so its over 30 years old and the leather is kinda dry. I bet it won't hold much... but you can try!  ;D

I took a two day fall protection class at work a few years ago.  One of the things they did is made us put on a body harness, then lifted us by the ring in the back . . . I weighed about 305 at the time and the limit on the harness was 310 . . . by the time they got my feet off the floor the strap in the front was around my neck and the leg straps were about to amputate my legs . . . and this was just being slowly lifted off the floor . . . I would have been dead if I "fell" into it, even with the shock absorber built into the lanyard.  I decided then and there, if it's something that requires fall protection, IT AIN'T A JOB FOR A FAT BOY!  I might throw a stick of firewood up in the air over my head, or try to pull a limb down with my pickup, but my tree climbing days ended years ago. ;D

I left a message with the tree guy I always use for stuff I can't handle, but I haven't heard back from him . . . I guess he's got more work than he can handle right now.  So, while I waiting I bought one of those chainsaw-on-a-rope deals from Harbor Freight.  I have a couple of small limbs in another tree that need to come down 'cause they are hanging on my roof, so I decided to try it on those first, then if it worked great, I'd try to saw down the limb that's holding my problem limb.  I thnk this thing might actually work on some types of trees, but it doesn't work that great on a pin oak.  Got it stuck in the cut about 3 times and finally broke the chain (a link popped off it's rivet).  Got it fixed, but I'm giving up on it too . . . so I guess I'll wait on the tree guy to call me back . . . got a feeling it might be a long wait though.

That will give me time to figure out some more hair-brained ideas to try.  Gott'a go.  I think the Road Runner is on TV . . .  Wile E. is my hero!  Now where did I put my Acme cataloge?   ???

I worked in a sweat shop one summer making climbing and safety harnesses. It was pretty interesting and I'd NEVER trust the fools they hire to make those things... ::)  ;D

Looks like its time for one of these
