Another new guy - '73 Ghia Hello to All

« on: September 22, 2009, 07:50:27 AM »
Hi VolksFolks,

Just wanted to say hello. I'll be joining soon. I'm sorry I missed the meeting last night.

I recently aquired a '73 Karmann Ghia Coupe. Runs fine and looks good. Lots of little things to do though- (still dialing in the Autostick)

I'm okay with some wrenching but can you guys recommend a local mechanic? If you all do your own mechanicing, then do you want to come over? I've got beer? ;)

I would be one... Rick at Eurasian Auto..... Rick at R&M Automotive is another, and, yes, a lot of folks on here do a lot of their own stuff.

Welcome. :D

Thanks for the reply Rick. I like to do my own stuff but it's nice to know where to go if I get in over my head or if I'm just plain uncomfortable doing something.

Have you or the other Rick dealt with many autosticks?

Thanks,
Dave

Welcome aboard!  We have a cruise-in coming up on Friday, Oct. 2nd at the Sonic on East Brainard Rd. (just past Gunnbarrel Rd.) from about 7:00 pm until ???.

We will also have caravan cruising up to Circle Yer Wagens (VW show and swap meet in Seveirville, TN) on Saturday, Oct. 3rd.  It will be leaving the Ooltewah Bi-Lo at 7:30 am.

I think there may be some other activities before our next monthly meeting, but those are two I that I can think of off the top of my head.

We've go a lot of folks who do their own wrenching and tons of knowledge and advice that will be dumped on you free for the asking.  So, if you have questions or need help or advice, just ask!

Oct 2nd sounds great. I look forward to meeting everyone and checking out some nice Vdubs. Can I become a real member at the meet-up?

I have, but not that many as so many were converted... great when they're working, frustrating when they  aren't \....

It's working. Shifting is ... shall we say...abrupt. Especially reverse. I have the wrong carb. I know there's a fix butr it requires drilling a hole in my carb. That kinda scares me but I know it must be done.

If you're gonna be at the meet-up on Friday, perhaps you could give me a pep talk.

Thanks,
Dave

I feel that beer is an essential lubricant when it comes to wrenching on vehicles.

(obviously I'm not an expert either. But I ain't scared or I wouldn't have bought a 36 year old car).
