Hang In There Tommy!

« on: July 08, 2012, 09:53:05 AM »
I just saw a post on Facebook that "The Fastest Jett in the Air," Tommy Jett has passed away.  We hired Tommy to DJ Bug-A-Paluza 5.  Although he seemed to be off his game that weekend, those of us that grew up listening to him spin 45s on AM 1070, WFLI, will miss his "Hey Nows!"  RIP Mr. Jett.   :'(

He came to riverbend one night and they let him talk. He got a little lost in what he was saying and ended up telling an old man story about how he got in a wreck and hurt his leg. It went on forever  and you knew they people running the show were looking for a shepards hook to pull him off stage. But at the end, he said Hey Now and everyone seemed happy.

That must have just happened,  I saw an update a few minutes ago that he was still in critical condition

That may have been a false report that I saw this morning.  It was a post from the Chattanooga Songwriter's Association that was shared by a friend of mine.  There was a post on Tommy's web page that was put up sometime this morning that said his condition was neither improved or worsened and the decision to remove him from life support had been defered for now.

This was updated at 8:00 AM this morning.  Apparently he is still hanging on, but it isn't looking good.

I haven't found any confirmation yet of his passing. All reports still say he is still in critical condition.

This was posted on his Facebook page about an hour ago

Tommy Jett UPDATE:
Tommy is hanging in there Folks.
As you probably know. Tommy has spent several weeks in hospitals and has had serious surgeries since his terrible car crash. Needless to say, the medical costs are piling up. While Tommy's Medicare will help pay for a lot of the costs, his wife, Charlene, will still have to deal with thousands of dollars in medical bills.
Several local TV, radi...o and entertainment types have gotten together to start a love fund to help them.
Although Tommy is in critical condition, doctors say he can still hear and understand people. In fact, Chip Chapman says he spoke to Tommy yesterday and he blinked an eyelid.
Tommy has done a lot for our community over the years especially with his Tommy Jett's Entertainers Reunions raising ten of thousands of dollars for local charities including St. Judes Children's Hospital, the Walker County Stocking Full of Love project, Hospice of Chattanooga and even area tornado victims.
How wonderful it would be if we were able to tell Tommy his fans are helping them.

:)

Linda got a big kick out of the photo on the news last night showing the old original crew at WFLI . She was the station receptionist for a time at FLY back in the day. I was friends with a few of them.  I grew up with the little guy up front , Stanley Hall. We lost him about 2years ago. Had a lot of fun there myself.  Does anybody remember the TV series  WKRP ?   Well that was WFLI for sure.
Keep digging Tommy . Our thoughts and prayers are with you my friend.

According a post someone put on his Facebook page, he has opened his eyes and looked around in response to sounds.  He is still in very critical condition, but considering just 3 days ago he was all but given up for dead, his condition seems to be improving.   8)

Last weekend, he was pretty much given up for dead; this weekend he's sitting up in bed talking to his family.   8)
