67 Bus for $49,000???

« on: October 24, 2004, 08:15:49 PM »
OK, I admit, it's a REALLY nice bus . . . but $23,000 and the reserve isn't met . . . buy it now for $49,000.  How much did it cost when new?  At this rate, it won't be long until Lucky will be worth a ground up resto!

It should have solid gold trim and pearl inlaid dash for that kind of a price.

Man !!!!!   As far as vans go, this is a beauty. The sad thing is that somebody will most likely buy it for this ,I think, a very inflated price and we all will know what will happen next. So everybody get your rabies shot and a morgage and head out and find a very rusted out" planter box/storage" van and you can help the "Have Nots" try to find a different hobby. I guess this is the way of the future for our VW hobby. Its kind of sad.
Zen, Just think, Homers stock just went up a few points but, the difference is that Homer has class and historical value in my eyes, while this $49.000 wonder is just another way overpriced bus that can not give us the wonderful and funny stories to brighten our day in a way that only Homer can do.

The sadest part is that a bus like that will probably never be driven and enjoyed like it's supposed to be.

I need to get Lucille back on the road.

Yes you do.   Since Lucil is a twin to the $49,000 Parts Bin,She would at least be a $15,000 box even with two broken rear legs. What do you think?

Pffft... it doesn't even have a radio! [-(

The most I've EVER seen a bus actually sell for (in a live auction-I think it was Jackson-Barrett) was $38,000 for a similar 65.  This restorer is about to learn the hard lesson of restoring.  It's usually cheaper to go out and buy a clean bus than to restore one yourself, especially if you're going to go insane and start cad-plating every nut and bolt, powder-coating the jack, etc, etc, etc!   Sure, save a bus, but don't do it expecting to make a profit.  Do it because you love the bus!

Well Stated Anthony,  The restorer probley couldn`t  afford to buy a radio after he got the bill for that caliber of restoration.

Here's a 3-for-1 deal that would make Kyle proud.  Probably sell for less than 49K, too! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=50057&item=4501710816&rd=1

Well there you have it !  If the club had this thing we wouldn`t  have to run around looking for a place to have the monthly meetings. It would be as close as the nearest Wal-Mart parking lot.
