here are the spy photo's renderings and the Iroc concept that is believed to be the one vw will use.

The front plate says :scIROCco how clever. The iroc is in bold with the other letters shadowed beside them.
Alright forget it do a search for 2008 Iroc or scirocco.
 All the pics are bmp and wont load.

I got them OK.  Looks like VW built themselves a Nissan or is it a Mazda.

The car looks too cool....there must be a catch.  So I believed, and one of the salesmen was saying at work yesterday afternoon that, in typical fashion, VW is pushing back the arrival date of such a beast.  Now they're tentatively labeling it a 2010 model.  Of course, that will change a dozen or more times this week alone, so who knows when we'll see one.  One things for sure though, the response for such a car has been very positive.  I think it's cool, but, alas, I'm poor so look is all I can do.....Until the test drive.  The coolest thing about my job?  I'm the first one in town to drive the totally new, totally cool stuff.  My favorite is still hands down the R32.  Small, Powerful, Tight handling, Stout Braking, and, of course, FAST.  What's not to love about that? Yep, it's the fringe benefits that make what I do worthwhile.

The "Concept A" is a good looking car also. But some air head at VW will probably shoot both of them down. I really like both of them.

I heard some hype about a 300 horse version. It's pretty cool but I wouldn't hold my breath for it.

It's been a while, so I don't know if anybody out there saw it, but VW had planned to produce a 3-wheeler.  They were actually quite serious about the project, but ran into problems regading insurance/safety stuff.  Dead.  Microbus? cool, Big response...too expensive to build....Kill it.  For those who missed it, there was the Phaeton.  They quit bringing it to the states at the beginning of the year.  Actually, they sell quite well in Europe.
The retractable hardtop, "Eos" is on the ground at the dealer now.  Still to come, but most of them are dragging, deadline-wise are: 4-door GTI, another R32, A "Passat Coupe", a compact SUV (not sure of the name, it changes every 3 days), and, finally another van....Built by Daimler-Chrysler in Canada....Good Lord....no comment on that one.

Daimler-Chrysler Van ?   In case you haven't notice, one version is lurking at yout local Dodge dealer. The Sprinter .  The best kept secret in all Vandum. All M.B. running gear. 5 cly Diesel , 27-30 mpg. I sing the praises on this Van.
I saw on the VW-AG site that VW already makes a clone ,or did, last year. I 'm curious if VW is going to make this van in Canada or are they going to produce some really ugly "Thingy" like the proposed retro. Jezzz!
I may be wrong here, but I would bet Rickey wasn't shedding any tears  over the lost of the Phaeton in the U.S.
VW tried this "High-End"  stuff( if that is what you want to call it) back in the 80's called the Quantum(?) . Audi produced a car (shiver) called a Turkey, oops I ment  Audi 5000, then VW just had to changes badges and sell them under the VW logo. The rest is history thank God !!

the dasher actually started in 1973 and then changed names to the quantum/santana in 1980 (passat in Europe) and then changed to the passat in the US in 1989(?)... so they are still trying that "high end stuff" 30+ years later... and I would guess it is doing quite well to be around that long.

it's sad the useless VW knowledge that I know... I've only once seen a VW santana... saw a pointer once too

I was going to see Santana once, but the concert sold out!    I used to have a Pointer.  I remember one time he hiked his leg on a Dasher.  Seriously though . . . well, not so seriously, but something I've been meaning to tell RetBugtech . . . The other day I was in the toy section at Wal-Mart (I know that's hard for y'all to believe, but I had to walk through it to get to the automotive department) and I saw a some cool RC cars . . . there was an AMC Gremlin and an AMC Pacer.  Hummm . . . If those are making it into RC cars, a VW Dasher can't be far behind! If they are out by Christmas, I'll get you one.

But seriously . . . really, this time I'm serious . . . The concept car I would like to see on the dealer lot is their "One Liter" car.  100 Kilometers on a Liter of fuel.  If I remember correctly, that comes out to somewhere around 240 MILES PER GALLON!  It's a two seater with gull-wing doors, carbon fiber body, aluminum frame, an automatically shifted manual transmission and powered by a 9 HP one cylinder TDI diesel engine.  It's obviously a little short on creature comforts, but when you just need to get from point A to point B, it sure would be nice not to have to take out a second morgage!

The "merican" got close in the late '40s early '50 .
Zen, Do you not remember the 2 seater " King Midget" ?  It had a 7hp Wis. 4 cycle  engine and would get about 65-70 mpg.  automatic clutch.
I think it cost about $350-400 out of the back of Pop.Mech. I use to have some sales Lit. Don't know where now.

I bought my grandson a used go cart a few weeks ago.  One of those "mini-rail buggy" looking ones.  It's got a 6.5 Tecumseh engine and a belt drive torque converter.  I don't know how many miles per gallon it's getting, but I can fill it up . . . maybe a gallon at the most . . . and he can ride for days.  It's got to be getting at least 50.  It'll run about 35 if you have a place to open it up.  I'm thinking 'bout beefing up the suppension, changing the gearing, adding lights and driving it to work!

They are putting this new Scirocco/Corrado ( which ever they decide on calling it casue I've heard both) into production.  They will be built in the same lines as the Eos.  That 3-wheel project was going to be put into production, but recently they have decided not to.

Once I graduate from GA Tech I'm gonna get one of those new Sciroccos and get Kim whatever new VW she wants.
