1985 Westy with starting trouble

« on: April 20, 2015, 09:10:13 AM »
Hi. I'm new to the forum, and a proud new owner of a 1985 Westy with a newly rebuilt 1.9 L engine. It was rebuilt by AVP Worldwide in CA, and bored out to 2.1. After making the journey home with it, it has refused to start. Any recommendations on a mechanic to tackle the issue?

Would like to get it transported to a reliable mechanic tomorrow. Thanks for any information!

Tony

Kell's Bug Barn will work on Water cooled as well.
Jessie is a great guy.
He is usually booked up so expect a wait unless it is Jan or Feb...

I guess that depends on where the westy is sitting currently. I read California and journey "home", but know nothing about shops out there. If he is close to Cohutta, then that would work.

Thank you to all who have responded recently.
I neglected to mention that I am in Chattanooga. The " journey home," was from Morro Bay, CA back to Chatt.
I looked at the list of shops linked off of the home page and I have talked with Sal from S&P and the folks at Baverian Auto (they no longer have anyone who works on the older water cooled).  I just wanted to see if there were any other recommendations, or reviews of those already recommended.
Incidentally, I discovered that the source of the mysterious starting issue was one of the temperature sensors. The "temp II sensor" that has apparently been a source of frustration for many over the years.
I still need a mechanic for some other engine maintenance, and would greatly appreciate all of the information that any of you card to offer.
Thanks again.
