1972 Super Beetle up for auction

I was able to get in and check out the interior today...not too shabby.  The seats appear to be in good condition as well as the headliner, the door panels, dash pad, and carpet.  I fired up the engine and after initial warm up period, it ran sweetly.  I also drove around the parking lot.  It drove good (I didn't get out of second gear!) and shifted just fine.  If you want good pans, it has them.  They look either original or they had been replaced a while back...undercoating is there, but doesn't look new.  All exterior lights work.  Didn't remember to check interior lights.  The under-the-hood area looked clean.  There was (of course!) an oil spot on the concrete beneath the engine, and the oil that was about to drip off of the oil pan looked clear.  The odometer read 69,115 miles.

If I was a doctor, I would give this patient a clean bill of health.
But I'm not a doctor.

I am posting some more pictures in the gallery plus I have some video of the engine running and of me driving around the parking lot.  Is there any way to post the video?  Can I send them to you Russ?

Just wanted to remind anyone who has an interest that the auction is today!  Come on out and try to outbid me!

CSLA is on the corner of Vance Rd. and East Brainerd Rd.  If you know where the Alhambra Shrine is, you can't miss CSLA!

Well, I guess my elaborate plan of how to tell you about the whole story is blown away.  Gobugo indeed!  And how did you find out before I even said anything?

Sorry, I haven't been able to get on here for the last few days.  I did get on last night, but fell asleep in the middle of posting my message.  When I awoke, I wasn't sure of what I had been doing, and turned off the computer, so my post wasn't posted.  Before that, I had been busy cleaning out my garage to make room for the new addition.
This is what happened.
I bid against one other person.  The auctioneer started off the bidding at $2000...no takers.  He then lowered to $1800, then $1700, all the way down to $1200.  I thought then that no one was interested, so I raised my bidder's paddle.  That's when someone else got interested and the war started.  Back and forth we went until I stood alone.  I got the Super Beetle for not much more than the initial starting bid.  I feel that I got a good deal.  I probably could have let the starting bid drop a little lower, but I almost felt ashamed for the previous owners, who were there, for knowing how much that it was worth and letting it go down further would have embarrassed even me, much less them.  Silly, huh?
When I paid for it, I was handed the keys, the title, the original owner's manual, a Bentley shop manual, and my receipt.  There was also a receipt enclosed that showed the engine had been overhauled at Lockhart's in April of 2004 for a total of $1790.
I went to the school yesterday and picked it up and brought it home.  It now resides in the garage until paperwork is finished and it is properly tagged and registered.
