10 gallons of gas???

« on: September 11, 2008, 08:19:30 PM »
Good thing a bug barley holds 10 gallons! All the gas staions are cutting the pumps off at 10 gallons and gas is going up by a dollar at midnight?

The gas stations on ringold rd were packed out and people were freaking out. I saw sum good ole boys that looked like they were ready to kill somebody. Is this everywhere or just here? I figured they would raise the price for the hurricane but dang this is nuts.

Yeah I about ran out of gas on the way home in my "new" car...  luckily it came with a full one gallon gas can... the gas station attendants were extremely rude today... the first place yelling at me about coming in the wrong way (sorry i was running on fumes) so i just put my spare gallon in and drove elsewhere to get gas... then since i filled my 3 cars at the same gas station at different times all in a row they froze my credit card at the pump and didnt wanna let me get gas... oh well i had another credit card... it really shouldn't be this hard to get gas! but figured if it's gonna go up i need to have all the cars filled for the cruise this weekend, camping next weekend and blah... going to work... if i run out of gas i;ll have to not go to work and save it for camping  :P

Ten gallons? That's crazy. That will barely fill up anything. Down here some have it set up to, if you are using a credit card, to stop at either $50 or 75. I can't remember which but don't really care since it doesn't even take $50 to fill up the Rocco, Cabby, or GLI(well really you would have to ask Kim about that one).

However, I did have to fill up one of the work vans and had to get $97(26-27 gals can remember exactly) worth and it didn't make me put the gas card in twice.

comming home tonight from work i pulled into the BP on amnicola and they were all empty and so was the second one across from the police center so i pulled into the old chevron ( closes early ) that was across from the BP. I put in the card and filled up. As i was a county deputy pulls up and says "  great they take cards ". I guess he was almost out of gas in his truck. It took me $25 to fill it up ( a 1/4 tank ). I then went home and got the eclipse and drove to a closed Texaco station on Bonnie Oaks. Half their pumps were empty but got it filled up for $39. The guy next to me took $98 in his Dodge suv....hahaha. I guess the bug will become a daily driver and be driving like Miss Daisy.......

Actually I cannot remember when I last filled up the Rocco. I know it was around 315 miles ago. It was either last week Thursday or the Thursday before that. I'm thinking the latter since I only live 5 miles from work.

I don't fill up the Cabby unless we are going on a long trip. I just splashed $10 last night so I wouldn't run out. No point of filling it up until I fix the odometer so I can actually calculate fuel mileage.

I do miss the 37 miles per gallon average that I was getting in the Rocco when we were still up there in Chatty, but I was also driving 90 miles a day and almost all highway.

At least WDEF is trying to quell the panic a little: http://www.wdef.com/news/gas_price_facts_for_thursday/09/2008

Quote

1.  Nothing has changed about the gas supply today.

The Hurricane has not affected any gas that will be pumped into your car this weekend.   The oil rigs that are shut down now by the hurricane, won't affect the gas supply for months.

2.  Wholesalers are warning retailers to expect major gas price hikes by Friday because of the hurricane.

Because there has still been no change in supply, this is just gas speculation (or profiteering).  Prices are going up tonight, but there is no certainty that they will continue to rise into the weekend.

3.  There is no gas rationing.

No government or organization has rationed gas.  Individual stores may limit how much you can buy or even run out.  Some are choosing not to pay for the hiked prices passed their way from wholesalers.  They don't want to buy gas at $5.00 today and have to sell it next week for $3.50.  They'll just shut down until the panic is over.

4.  Panic buying now only rewards the profiteers.

There is enough gas for everyone.  The prices will go up only as much as we are willing to pay for it.  Unless Hurricane Ike does serious damage to refineries on land, prices should return to normal by next week.

Apparently it was some announcements on US101 and Rock 105 yesterday afternoon that kicked off the gas scare. The price went up a little but certainly not $1.00 more overnight.

Since I've driven the bus all week I still have a full tank in the Jetta, so I got to miss out on all the gas buying craziness last night.

So did we!! I've still got just less than half a tank, thank GOD! When I drove by the gas station this morning the price was still the same but all the people were gone so i thought I'd just go ahead and stop since it wasn't busy....and they only had the premium left! I said nevermind and just kept on driving! Im not paying it if I don't have to! What a bunch of crazies!

Yeah all the stations decided to jump up the prices today. The cheapest I found it was $3.99 a gallon and that was at Walmart while the fuel truck was there.  :x Everywhere else was at least $4.19 to $4.59, that's including downtown Savannah.

Stupid Ike and gas station owners/suppliers.
